Enhanced Calculator for S60 in Beta Labs

Nokia Beta Labs have released an enhanced calculator for S60. The calculator, which has been ported from Series 40, features standard, scientific and loan modes. A big plus, in standard mode, is the use of the D-pad as shortcuts for the common operators (+, -, × and &divide which greatly improves the speed of entering calculations.

Read on in the full article.

Wow, what a co-incidence, we just published that article about S60 learning lessons from Series 40.

Spooky. Definitely a recommended download. To borrow a phrase from the British cycling team... aggregation of marginal gains can make a big difference.

I agree fully fernando, whats the purpose if its written in java, when all of Nokia’s apps are written in native sis format.

Also what’s the point with this java calc when there are tons of alternative calc apps (normal or scientific) out for S60,many which are free...

And yes,Handy Calculator is far better alternative than both this "Enhanced Calc" & the default one...

Exclamation Just a minute Fernando

I will use this when its built-in the firmware...the purpose of Beta Laps is checking if the application worth to be built-in or not...when its found on the phone out of the box then i dont care or may be i dont know if its java or symbian.
Many people dont know Lifeblog was written on java and to check that find an 3250 with its oldest firmware u will find the lifeblog uninstalled like the FSC antivirus on N73...when u install it u will find its java...the icon on Application manager is blue.
Now am using my Handy Calendar and am happy but this will be better out of the box.

Yeah... the S60 calc is so bad I think I actually threw it away (instead of just hiding it). I went with Calcium. Great (simple) calculator.

D-pad operators has been the way to go for over a decade, everywhere but S60. It's hard to believe that a java port of the S40 calculator is worthy of a betalabs release. Just fix it for real, and include in the next decimal S60 release.

i like the layout, but after installing it on my phone and placing it in the active standby screen, grrrr.... the ICON IS SO SMALL! uninstall it after. I hope they'll change the size of the icon (same with the default S60 calculator icon size) on its final version.

Well, does not really work on the E71. Dimensions are wrong. GUI errors (fragments with the scrolling effects). QWERTY-Keyboard not really supported...

It is a huge improvement over the standard calculator. The plain old Samsung phones has had something similar for a while, excluding the scientific and load calculator. By the way, the loan calculator is a nice touch. To bad than that it is in java!!!!

Java??? If you want a decent calculator for java, try the free Javia Calculator. Far superior to any other calculator I've ever tried ... the only reason why I avoid it sometimes is because of the Java lag/memory overhead. In which situations, there's already Calcium.

God, the fact that Nokia can't be bothered creating a simple native symbian app anymore is depressing ...
