Q: Replacement battery 1500mAh/2500mAh

As I can not decide, wether to get an E71, an N95-8GB or an iPhone, I decided to go for a relatively cheap option: get an N95.
I learned from this forum, that battery life is an issue, though the last firmware upgrade should help a bit.

Did anyone tried a replacement battery with more mAh? On eBay, they sell "100% fit" batteries for N95 with 1500 and even 2500 mAh for a few Euros.

Has anyone experience with these?

If its not a proper Nokia battery, the general expirence is that you *might* get an increased batterylife, but it doesnt last long and quickly degrades to have less performance than a normal Nokia one.

Not really. You can buy the N95 8Gb battery (1200) and use a modified back cover, but this makes the N95 fatter still.

Or just buy a car charger and use that all the time to help.

run v21 firmware and batterey is fine , top up when poss when near a charger and youll be fine mate , battery isnt an issue with v21 firmware installed and lasts just as long as my n 73 with many more features then that handset

Do NOT decide against the N95 8Gig because of your perception about the battery.

The standard N95 8Gig battery is fine and lasts a long time.

Just drop a little cash on a second battery for you own personal piece of mind however you will likely never use it. Buy two extra batteries and keep them at diff places.

The N95 8Gig is the most convergent device on the market. I just bought QuickOffice 5 and the igo sierra keyboard and let me tell you, I can do anything I want to on the road and then, when I am done, I slide it closed and its the size of a deck of cards.

I shot picture/videos for my entire vacation this year and the quality is quite good.

I would hate to see you buy something else when all you need do is buy a couple of extra cheap on ebay batteries.

I assume you go to sleep at night? If so, charge the phone whilst you dream.

ALL smartphones need a charge every day (or two), especially if used a lot.
Just get used to it (daily charging) and enjoy using all your N95's features.

I am even reliably informed by a friend who owns an iPhone 3G that he has to charge every night.

Moral of the story: Stop looking for battery replacements and just get an extra battery. Never get rid of the standard battery. Its strong.

Besides, the 1500 battery is only 21% bigger.

Getting a second battery is cheap and gives you about 70% more juice then a 1500 does.

As some users have mentioned, once you upgrade to V21 firmware the battery isn't an issue as it was before. I find my battery life has improved dramatically since I upgraded my firmware on my N95.

Simple, buy a second official Nokia N95 battery, then if you think you need your phone for a long journey or whatever, just charge the spare the night before and your sorted!

Personally I wouldn't risk any non official stuff when it comes to batteries

I too am looking for an N95 (classic) battery replacement, but probably for a different reason: the battery I have in my N95 is wearing out due to age. Am I right in thinking that non-genuine Nokia "BL-5F" batteries are best avoided due to quality issues?

I'm not interested in trying to increase the battery capacity - I'd just like a new 950mAh N95 battery which isn't the worn-out one I currently have, and it would be nice not to have to spend lots on it if it's not really necessary (cash is a bit tight this time of year).

Stick with the genuine Nokia battery. Too many horror stories about cheap batteries. They have come down in price from the £25 they used to be.
