It's an implementation of 'Bar Football' with your players on sticks that spin, on your phone! Gooooaaaaaaallll!!
I think the point is that this is not a fully fledged game, but a demo (with source code) of techniques to use in gaming, and as such, from a developers point of view, is probably more exciting than a well packaged game. If this spurs other developers on to new apps with motion detection, then the ecosystem is all the better for it.
