Another Maps update - and a promo video
Nokia are really pushing on with development of Maps 2.0 at the moment. There's a flashy new promo video on the main Nokia Maps page, plus a new build of the software: v2.0 build 2204 - can you spot anything new or changed?
Read on in the full article.

Anyone got a direct link to the new SISX file? "Downloads" is not working as a method of updating my version of Maps on my N95 and N95 Gb. Cheerios.

Hi, the download link is working, there is a small message on the screen that popups are blocked. When you allow the popup for this webpage than a new window appears and you can download the sis file.

maps
The previous version had some instability problems. Once a month it started randomly routing me into random directions. Perhaps they fixed those. Any case the version numbers bumped up after installing the sisx.

One thing I noticed but I am not sure, wether it is new:
When you go to Tools -> Settings
Select 'Map'
Then left Softkey 'Options' shows 'Search for updates maps' or whatever it is in english
There is also a reference in the Nokia MAPS FAQs ( http://europe.nokia.com/A41005121 ) to that:
http://europe.nokia.com/A41005121#Ho...2.0%20updated?
---
How often is the map data in Maps 2.0 updated?
The map data will be updated serval times a year. You can check for map updates in the Maps 2.0 application through Options > Tools > Settings > Map > Options > Check for map Updates (this is only possible if you have allowed the mobile internet connection in Maps 2.0). If there is a new release of map data, the application will prompt you to delete the preloaded map data.
When Maps uses a mobile internet connection, large amounts of data may be downloaded to your mobile device, resulting in costs arising from the download. See our FAQ on how to keep such costs down and contact your network provider for more information about your data plan.
If the map data is updated, the application will display Your current maps are up-to-date.
If you do not allow checking for map updates, the application will go on downloading data from the map data releases that were downloaded when using the application for the first time.
---
Has that been there before?

PMitchell

More videos to come
FWIW, I am trying to get my hands on the video you mentioned (so folks can embed) and some others from Maps (so you guys can scan for goodies).

What would be very sensible is if the maploader told you there was updates for your maps.
And it should also display what maps you have on your phone. At the moment you connect it, and it just displays whats available to download.

The check for updated maps from the phone was already in build 2102. Nothing specific to the new build 2204.

After using the new build I have the feeling it gives voice navigation far earlier. And it seems as if I now get fewer outages during hearing music/podcasts via bluetooth headset now while having navigation on.
