£700 for the N96?

Don't you just love these early-bird, pre-order prices? I can't resist mentioning that Expansys now have the Nokia N96 up for pre-order - £697 inc VAT. Gulp. In fact, make that an extra big gulp. Don't panic though, I'm sure the price when available will be more reasonable!

Read on in the full article.

wow! 700!! what type of advance futuristic phone will we get for that price? Metal covers instead of the usual cheap plastic, shock resistant, waterproof.....? lol! Well at least, the phone will not cost that much for its launch - i suppose it will be in the range of £400+VAT.

Expansys, Etc

Seems a bit steep for a pre-order !

Perhaps they should register a new domain www.expensivsis.com !!

its always the same with expansys.i see someone has nicked my take on their url too but no matter haha.id love to hear their justification for such extortionate pricing as they ve got the n78 up for £360 too. when you do the math the spoke about on this site 330 euros doesnt add up to that??????

If it's 700 pounds sim-free in the UK, I bet it'll be 700 euros sim-free in Finland...

UK sim-free prices seem to be a terrible rip-off, especially in launch periods.

It mainly seems to be Expansys that try to rip their customers off, they wanted £650 for the original N95 months at launch and for weeks after after, most others were was selling it for £499.

Play.com are usually about the best pricewise these days, especially at launch.

LOL, they seem to be using the currency rate 1 euro to 1 pound there...

Glad to hear other shops are a bit more reasonable.

Expensive are notorious for their silly prices . They are not competative if you ask me on new devices . Mobilefun , Handtec etc seem to understand that customers don't like being ripped off!!!

Still it's their business and if someone is mad enough to pay £700 for a new device that really dosn't give you much more than the N95 function wise then who is the silly one.

The official press release said the N96 would launch for 550 euros plus taxes, which is 437 pounds plus taxes. With UK VAT on top of that, you get 513 pounds as the official launch price in Britain.

It doesnt have "freeview"! It has a dvb-h tuner No-one in the uk currently broadcasts dvb-h..or is likely to in the near future. Freeview uses dvb-t. The tuner will probably be blocked in the uk version anyway....
