The E90 v2, photo proof
Photos have appeared on a German site (and reposted here in English) of a new Nokia E90, apparently a 'version 2', with totally redesigned, flush keyboard, presumably to stop any possibility of greasy fingerprints on the keys transferring to the screen. Comments welcome if this has made an appearance in other countries or if you can shed any light on timescales and distribution details.
Read on in the full article.

Hi all
OK whilst i can see there is a difference as all the keys are the same height i have a newer version E90 that shipped with V 07.24.0.3 and was from 02. Even though the qwerty keys are raised in relation to the outside keys i have no grease marks or scratches to the screen at all and it has been used heavily for a little over two weeks now as i tend to mainly use the internal screen and keyboard so it is constantly being opened and shut. I really don't get the point of this new modification as to me it seems alreday fixed.

Hello ,
I received mine this week
Firmware version is 7.40.1.2 03-10-2007 and is Nokia E90 (08). Keyboard touch is rough not soft :(

Controversal
I don't know much about the E90, but I happen to read German.
Both forum threads about this possible new model end in a controversy whether this is really a new model or just a single freak specimen of an E90 at the far end of production tolerance, with the keyboard lower than normal.
It seems to me that the "no new model" faction wins both discussions.

Seems a little early for April fool's, doesn't it?
Thanks Brunner for the translated conclusion of the German forum.
I'm also very doubtful. First of all the reflective color of the keyboard looks weird, doesn't it? And did you notice how loose the memory card door was? Maybe brick's been operated on.
I'm glad Nokia fixed E90's biggest hw problems. I'm 99% satisfied with my new brick. Once in a while screen gets greasy marks but I can live with that :-)

I'm just about to buy a e90, and I can confirm that there are TWO hardware versions. I did my homework, googled alot about it so I can buy the newer one and after that I went to several phone shops here in Poland. Im not a nokia e90 owner yet, so I didnt check whether the keys feel the same, but surely one version has a flat base, and the other has the base lifted. Now when I think of it, the versions with the lifted base may have had easier to press keys, and they werent rough. I attach 4 photos which I prepared to send to internet shops so they can tell me which version they have.

yes, there are 2 versions..
Yep,
2 versions have come onto the market but...
The 1st version that you watch from youTube (presented 3-9 months ago) has been discontinued and those on the market recalled. The ones that jumped back then have sent their bricks back for fixing (or should under warranty!) free of charge.
After consideration I think the term "repaired version" is the norm.
Don't buy anything you'll need to send back, period.
I waited here in Finland cos no shop would/could sell E90 until mid-December 2007. Mine's from Santa ;-)
E90 is the best out there! Good build, camera, video, Qwerty+ 4" screen (compaired to iphone 3.5, N95 8Gb 3.2). And when 16 GB memory card & more E90 sw come out next summer the commie will rule for ages.
Best phone investment you can make, like a Mercedes, it won't be let you down if you learn how to use it properly.
Guess in the end you need to be "smart" to use this smartphone.
Sorry for the long text. I enjoy typing on E90 when there's
Nothing on tv! :-)
-Cheers

mine has raised baseline
My E90, which I received just a couple of weeks ago, has a raised baseline, which is different to some photos I've seen of older ones. The label under the battery says 'E90-1' Type 'RA-6'.
Max.

Battery Life
If Nokia is releasing a new version, I hope they have done something about the battery life too.
My E90 gives me decent battery life only if I dont use it :-) :-(
With normal usage and about half hour per day usage of the internal screen, the max I have got is about 28 hours (1.25 days)

When I saw the picture and this round label with v.2, I felt this is a misnomer. E90 may be revised, but the label doesn't really tell anyone anything.
I bought Nokia BT headsets since long time ago, and they have the similar label from v1.0, v1.2 or v2.0 on the packaging. To me it is the packaging design and not the hardware design at all. Imagine a new bluetooth headset hit the market and would have the similar label of v2.0, does it make sense that it's a new version already?
Usually you won't find such information clearly visible. It may be marked somewhere on the circuit board, but not anywhere on the boxes.

As far as I can tell, there is only 1 hardware version as of yet, with minor additions in two stages (the keyboard thing discussed here would make it three). I purchased in July and in October, and both had the 2nd "revised" keyboard bezel (which dips at corners, as opposed to being completely flat). I would welcome a new keyboard, but more importantly, a better mic/speaker without problems... and international warranty support.
Oh... and most E90's I have seen have that loose memory car door (it has a half millimeter gap).
