Keyboard BackLight problem

Hi all,

First post here. I am one of the happy owner of a Nokia E90.

Some of E90 users are talking about Keyboard backlight. I am both happy and concerned about that. I really find it a killer feature but my E90 QWERTY keyboard is not lighting actually.

Is there a place to activate/desactivate keyboard Backlight ?

Is this related with the Light sensor (wich I don't understand the aim) ?

Thanks for your help.

That's normal. The way they've implemented the keyboard and screen brightness controls is a complete mess on the E90 (I sometimes wonder wether Nokia actually have a designer or if they're just letting developers making all the design decisions on an ad-hoc basis).

The internal keyboard backlight can only be activated manually. You have to press Ctrl (bottom left key) - Bulb (top left key).

The external keypad backlight can not be controlled as far as I can see. It's always backlit (unlike the E61 keyboard which would automatically be backlit in the darkness but not backlit in daylight, which was a very neat feature).

The internal screen brightness can only be be modified via a hardware key combo. You have to press Chr - Bulb repeatedly to cycle through all the different brightness settings.

The external screen brightness can only be controlled via the "Light sensor" settings you're talking about and which can be found in the phone settings. This setting is actually nothing more than the external screen brightness setting (why they decided to call it "Light sensor" is beyond my understanding but I long gave up trying to understand the way Nokia's UI designers think).

Thanks a lot for your elp

Anyway how it is implemented I am very happy to have dicovered this feature exist. I had to light the keyboard with the screen light before (with small angle between us)

In my case, I switch the keyboard backlight on&off quite often so a dedicated key is better than a menu in phone settings.

One More point I am happy with this phone .... Thanks Nokia

You don't need to use the CTRL key, just the bulb key on its own.

Thanks guys, guess it pays to read the manual from time to time (I never do though) - I've had my E90 for 2 weeks now and I never knew that

Thanks for pointing that out. For some strange reason I convinced myself that I had to press the Ctrl key for this to work. Been using a E90 for a month now and had not even tried to press the key on its own.

But what I don't like is the fact that when the inner screen backlight goes dark, you press a key to light it u again but the keyboard always remains dark, you have to press the bulb key each time.

Isn't there an option to light it up together with the backlight of the screen.

Smile Screen Light On Permanently

When anyone is looking for a facility not to turn off the screenlight : install a third party application S60SpotOn . It also can turn the Camera flashlight into a Torch . However on my E90 only RED !!!
Download , just click Try it :
http://my-symbian.com/s60v3/download...name=S60SpotOn
O yes ! The certificate is expired , but setting clock back 1-2 years or so AND setting App. manager to : All and Out , will do the job
