A Symbian Christmas 2007: Part 2 - Themes

It's still going to be a Symbian Christmas, you know, as proved by Krisse with a hand picked selection of the very best Christmas themes for any S60 3rd Edition smartphone . You can just about hear the sleigh bells in the distance... Oh hang on, that's just the CD blaring out of the bargain shop....

Read on in the full article.

Title says they are for all Series 60 3rd Edition phones.

I thought that meant the N95 for example.

But when I try and install "Waiting For Christmas", or "Christmas Tree", the installation on the phone, tells me they are "not for this type of phone".

Where am I going wrong?

EDIT: DESPITE the warning errors, they seem to work however.

Shadamehr, the warning message seems to appear if a theme is vertical-only (portrait-only) but your phone is in horizontal (landscape) mode during installation.

Those themes should work if you use them with the phone in vertical (portrait) mode.

Ericko, the link you gave was to a corrupt zip file.

@ krisse

Krisse, alas no mate, I had it in portrait when I installed both.

But like i say, they both work.

With a BUG however...

The first theme...

When typing, as if to dial a number direct, the text is in WHITE, in a WHITE box. In other words, totally invisible.

Same for the caller name on incoming or outgoing calls though - so you cant see who is calling etc.

Shadamehr, you mean the Red Christmas theme?

That works totally fine for me, and I actually tested it on two different S60 models (N93 and 6290). The text is white on a red background.

If you meant Waiting For Christmas, that too works fine for me, it's white text on a blue background.

Do you have any software running in the background when you install or use the theme with the bug?

One thing I did notice was that the text colour on the official preview screenshots didn't always match the text colour when I actually installed the theme. Several of the themes I tried failed to make it into the article because they had precisely the colour bug you encountered, white on a white background.

Is it possible that some S60 3rd phones and/or firmwares interpret themes slightly differently to others?

Whatever the case, these themes are all free so there's no harm in trying them. :-)

Whilst some of these themes are nice (I like the red theme from Pizero) there aren't any really Christmas themes here. What about a tasteful nativity scene?
