Difference between 95-1,95-3 and 95 8GB
I've got one of the very early N95-1 models (upgraded to latest firmware) and love the large font and the big keys.
I'm considering upgrading to the 8GB but before I do so, could somebody please advise me and also point out the differences and advantages/disadvantages between the three models?
The N82 I've got on loan is great but I find the type too small for my old eyes (64 next birthday).
It's a pity there's no flash on the N95.
Thanks very much
Darryl

If you dont care much for the slightly larger screen then put v20 firmware on your N95-1 and get an 8GB card and stick with your current.
the videos that come up on search are heavily biased towards the old firmware and the bootup time is a damn sight quicker than the video'ed one.

As a fully contented N95 Classic owner (and now ver21 operating system) I can't see the N95 8Gb as an upgrade.
If you are coming to the N95 anew then there may be a case for the 8Gb but even so I would still go for the Classic.

Thanks everybody.
I have the v20 firmware on my N95 but I like the idea of the bigger screen (hopefully larger type?) and the longer battery life.
I was also told the 8GB faster but I don't know if that's correct.

Well the 8GB has twice the available ram (128 as opposed to 64) and it came with demand paging from the outset. For that reason it was always faster than the pre v20 N95s but the gap has been closed dramatically but yes due to the fact the phone is not paging as much it will always be a tad bit quicker but the processor is the same so essentially theres little performance gain to be had.
If you have dont HAVE an n95 yet and can live with a maximum of 8Gb ( in my experiance thats ample but then I dont keep thousands of mp3s on the phone ) and you can also live with slightly smaller buttons and slightly hiked price then by all means I would go for an 8GB. If you already have an N95 or want to save some cash then i wouldent bother upgrading. Unless you simply feel the benfits are worth the hassle of selling a phone and paying out money.
In my opinios the main disadvantages are the N95-8 also doesent have the camera shutter ( although the n95 still collects dust on my personal use the camera lens will get scrateched to buggery after about 7 or 8 months which will degrade the quality of the photos. Some people see this as no big deal but all the phones ive had in the past have suffered scratched lenses and the higher the quality of camera the more the scratched will ruin the photos. Also the lack of SD Card slot ( again 8GB is a lot but transfer to the device is painfully slow compared to a reader ) and also the n95 will have the ability to use 8Gb + SD Cards. this will mean the only advantage is the slightly increased battery and ram.

Thanks for the advice.
When you say "slightly smaller buttons", do you mean the actual number keys?

I think them ones are the same I cant remeber now! The buttons under the screen are smaller in height because of the larger screen.
the resolution of the screen however is the same and tbh you only rearllse notice theres a size difference when you hold the two phones next to each other.

I own both the N95 and the N95 8GB and the text is actually bigger on the N95.

OK.....
If it's very much bigger on the N95 then I'll probably be making an error buying a 8GB.
As you appear to be best placed to comment, how do you rate the other differences between the two models?
Thanks

I have never rearlly sent a text of an 8GB so cant comment ont he size of the lower buttons.
The font size on the screen is (obviously) going to be slightly bigger because of the larger screen but the resolution however is the same.

Just got my N95 8gb from Vodafone and I must say I am impressed.
In the settings field > tools > personalisation > display it allows you to choose small/normal/large font. I chose large and it is very viewable indeed.
Font wise, big improvement on my N73.
Would highly recommend this phone.

Just to note, you can do this on the N95-1 too. The phone is really designed for Normal, though, and at Large some menu items are truncated (like 'Personalisation' to 'Personalisati...').
