Power users only, please: Energy Profiler
Forum Nokia has released a tool, primarily aimed at developers but of interest to power users trying to work out where that extra 10% of battery capacity is going. Nokia Energy Profiler works with all applications, built-in and third party and should identify any culprits!

Wow!
I am really amazed, this is just perfect! Imagine what kind of insight we now can reach instead of all that testing without really knowing what is going on. We can most detailed, how much for instance DVFS really gives us! Amazing, Nokia, go on
Regards,

Wow! This is so nice. They should add some other shortcut keys to take screenshot. There's only few s60 3.1 devices that still have edit key!!! Future s60 devices have no edit key!

This is a fantastic little app. I can see REAL power saving tips in the short future. With so many people investigating the power consumption of every feature/function. I can even see people turning down beeps from now on because already notice plenty of spikes with sound!! How cool!!

problems?
anyone else having problems with the program unexpectingly closing? When I start the monitoring, it will close sometimes after that seemingly at random. Anywhere from the seconds I start it, to 2 minuites later... Quite annoying because it's such a useful program...

Thank you for encouraging comments. We will fix the manual screenshot key issue, make bug fixes and add some special stuff. Please send your feedback and any bug reports (helfone) to energyprofiler at nokia dot com.

I'll really soon post a loooong article on this stuff, along with my comparative (compared to th ebest, similar title on WinMob: that is, acbTaskMan) remarks (how it could be improved) and my brand new benchmarks on the v20 N95.

Keep up the good work. How many of those great geektoys do you have at nokia just sitting there and waiting to be published? Like the accelerometer api or this

I've done a small test with n95 8GB vs n95 classic and the results are quite surprising. The 8GB is more efficient even though it has a brighter and larger screen.
I tested both n95 8GB (v11) and n95-1 (v20) under the same conditions e.g. offline mode, all apps closed except energy profiler, phone from reboot state, both apps started at the same time, changed display lit time to 60 secs etc.
At idle with both screen lit the n95 8GB consumes approx 0.28w whereas the n95-1 consumes approx 0.33w! It's very sensitive so varies slightly sometimes but the 8GB is always more efficient by at least 0.04w!
On idle with both screens unlit it consumes 0.19w and 0.20w respectively and sometimes the gap increased to 0.02w again the 8GB winning on efficiency. It goes into a deeper sleep state if left for a while and consumes even less power but again there was always a small gap between the two.
