HI all some bad news,
My dad somehow managed to become a beta tester for nokia and owns an n95 along with myself. He logged into the beta testers only forum and posted the question we all want the answer to, when is v20 going to be released to the public?
The answer in return was, Nokia is aware of the demand for the new v20 firmware but due to massive changes and improvements to the functionality and stability of the software v20 will never be released to the general public but v30 will be released as soon as it is ready.
This was the reply given to him from the head of the beta testing division.
Looks like we wont be having anything this side of 2008 guys.
However the new pc suite with the drag and drop functionality is pretty cool though. Has anyone else got this?
n95 firmware v20 will not be released

That's only two months, I'll cope 🙄
As long as they put in Memory (demand) Paging, I am willing to wait.. 😊
I was tempted to reinstall my roadsync with Mail 4 exchange 2.1 instead after the latest firmware.. but I might do that a bit earlier now
How reliable is this source? I can't see N-gage launching in december without the N95, and for the N95 to be compatible demand paging is needed. So confirmation from a second source seems relevant.

its his dad, man. Pretty reliable source if u ask me.

You know his Dad do you? No offence to anyone but some guy on a forum who says his dad is a Beta tester is hardly reliable! I'm not saying he's lying but I could just as easily say my dad was and you guys would have no way to know.
When we say a reliable source, it generally means a reputable technology site or official statement

I think you missed the sarcasm 😊

Don't think it was sarcastic. No emoticons to suggest so and use of the word man, suggests emphasis on his point.

lolll what are you ???! A novalist or english teacher ?
using the word "man" lightens up the mood ... suggesting i was just messing around.
Life is too short to be taking posts from people you do not know so seriously. Chillax ... man.
Haha, do you imagine I'm getitng all flustered about it? I don't care, I was just presenting the facts that formed my opinion. Life is not short, it's really really long, what can you do thats longer?

Ooh, ya think? A bit like a Jester? 🙄
Just getting back to the original topic for a moment, am I missing something here? My N95 is currently on V12.something. Where has V20 or 30 come from? What about the versions inbetween?

I think V20 was the next one that was going to be released but this thread is suggesting it won't be. Many firware revisions are developed internally by Nokia without ever reaching public consumption, either because bugs are discovered or because the improvements are not sufficient on their own to justify a release.
i want this bad but why is demand paging needed for ngage and couldnt they just offer it up as a downloadable app.they would have to do the same for n73
when a SIGNificant change to the OS or Software occurs that usually entails a decent version jump .. not just a revision number.
Hence the Jump from the teens to the twenties.
I'd say demand paging was a "significant" jump 😊
And best to delay until it works properly.
thats the thing though there is not or never has been a shred of credible evidence to suggest that they are going to release another firmware at all.let alone give it demand paging.there must be someone somewhere who knows something about it like a nokia employee maybe, i cant see it being that big a secret i mean pics of the n82 were out months ago maybe everybody should email nokia with the same message once a day will there be another firmware release for the n95.1 yes or no. haha
Considering the severity of the key press bug, I don't think a new firmware can be much worse than the current. If you do a lot of texting, you are plagued by this bug hundreds of times each day 😞
It's also likely that new firmware with the N-Gage software will be released, since the N95 is an N-Gage enabled phone. They could just have it as an installable application, but I'd think they want to get it on to as many phones as possible.
The keypress bug is why I'm still on V11.

Yeah, I do a lot of texting (which is odd since I don't actually have any friends) and the 'bug' is most annoying. I do wonder what is in Nokia's mind to have left it unaddressed for so long.
Still, I will probably buy yet another one of their new phones so they probably have the right idea from a business point of view.
It is weird. I don't seem to have this bug (maybe fixed in the T-Mobile version of the firmware?) but it clearly affects a lot of people so I think Nokia should have released an update to V12 which JUST addresses that problem.

When I had a T-Mobile N95, I never suffered from the bug, even with the later firmware. I then lost that phone, got a insurance replacement "Sim free" and am plagued by it. It drives me nuts. It's not just texting that it affects either. Even going through the folder views or using the soft (or any) keys I am hampered by "missed" key presses. I now see what everyone else was going on about (when I was smugly not affected) and it drives me nuts. Seriously stuffs up my enjoyment of this phone.
This may be old news - but worth a shot?
Quote from danman on the Nokia discussion forum;
Now something I have noticed with the V12 keypress bug at least with my N95 is that it depends on what theme I am using, I find if I use downloaded themes and a couple of the pre loaded nokia themes then I have the keypress problem but if I use the nokia nseries 1 and 3 themes then I don't, at least not that I have noticed and I am quite a fan of texting.
This does'nt change the fact that there is a problem but may help some of you for the time being hopefully, but with the infamous N95 who knows as each one seems to be completely different.
I am using V12 unbranded and don't have the bug using N series theme 1.

Interesting! I have just upgraded the firmware on my phone and noticed the bug almost straight away. I was using the Nokia 2 theme which I've changed now and will see if there is any difference.
