Woohoo! The promise of free Wi-Fi around the UK's towns just got one step closer with McDonalds joining the restaurants and cafes that are now providing free Wi-Fi. (Via STN)

The real issue
If they are using The Cloud (or BT Openzone), will there be a need to log in with a browser or can you just access the Wi-Fi by connecting to the network?
My experience has been variable at best in using Wi-Fi hotspots with Smartphone or PSP or other non laptop device. Often the login page isn't viewable without a mainstream (IE or FF) browser with JavaScript and cookies enabled.

The S60 browser is often treated by websites as if it was Safari, because they both use the same open source core to render websites.
If they're excluding Safari from these services then they're excluding a lot of Apple users (including the new iPod Touch and iPhone as well as the laptops). S60 and Apple together represent a heck of a lot of portable wi-fi devices, it'd be crazy to shut them out.

Both 'The Cloud' and 'BT Openzone' work fine with the s60 browser, so I would imagine the new offering from McDonalds to work just fine.

In Romania McDonald alreadz offers free WiFi hotspots. However, I never managed to load a website, despite connecting successfully.
