Nokia introduce threaded SMS
Woo! Nokia has launched a new application, Conversation, offering SMS sorted by contact (think 'threaded'). Conversation appears standalone and as a tab in S60 3rd Edition's Contacts.
Read on in the full article.

Works well on n93, but eats ram and am getting memory full errors initially. It does not allow the contacts application to exit anymore and the contacts application does not appear in the list of running apps either.
Just hope that this does not mean lower ram availability for other apps now.
Plus an option to search messages by contact in the 'conversations' pane (the way contacts sort when you start typing letters in 'contacts' tab) would have been really useful.

Very nice app. Nokia is "learning" from Iphone and SendSMS..
Nokia is learning, and again, does it better, cause
no-one like Nokia can integrate something like this
as well..
Good way to ditch the old boring contacts and
have this in the active today instead.
Easy way to add picture to contacts.
But I still have to keep using SendSMS' delayed
SMS-sending, which kept my friends happy when
I actually slept in on appointments I regretted when
making

No where near as elegant a solution as Symbinawave's 'SMSChat'
Nokia's Chat works but I don't like the scrolling old messages & the tiny compose window.
The fact that Nokia's compose window is at least at the bottom of the conversation thread is it's real advantage over SMSChat. (Arguably that's the only reason for threaded view - so you can look at old messages while composing a reply.
Hopefully SymbianWave will sort this out in a future release.

Works okay on an E61 with latest Orange firmware - however - it gobbles up RAM and left Roadsync unable to function.
Slart.

A good effort by Nokia, but unfortunately it is useless on my E61i because I have too many messages stored which makes the program crash all the time.

all i can say Nokia is 'try the f*** again!', this application is worth a big kick in the ass whoever build it. For one, its nice to see that they saw the need to come up with a solution to stay competitive however, they brought out the wrong solution, as simple as that. It is straight out junk! It is even in the wrong place! How can u get that one wrong??? It installs itself in the 'Contacts Folder' instaid of the Inbox folder where u'd expect your messeges to be! Sorry but someone needs to get fired! Second, it slowed the crap of the Contacts Folder up to a point where it made the actual phone unuseful!
It definately makes the list of the worst applications ever made from Nokia.
Cheers! Can't wait for the Nokia thread 2.0 though ^_^

Half way?
1. Why cant it totally replace the Inbox experience I have? so any incoing message notification will trigger the threaded view rather than opening the good old viewer?
2. Why going half-way? why not simply doing IM? this half-way implementation looks like an old mimic of things that were implemented by others ages ago... Nokia - the "internet services" company? and this all what they can show?
hmmmm.....

The latest version of Symbinawave's SMSCHAT can *almost* do that. You get a SMSChat 'New message' notification, clicking on it will take you to that persons conversation thread.
It's not entirely smooth... if your phone is left in standby screen (as it usually is) you'll still get the Nokia 'New message' notification, which you'll have to dismiss first.
But I have effectively replaced Nokia's text client with SMSChat now. Not quite perfect yet but it's a lot more fun than the built in version.

Conversation
Seems to eat it with a 'Menu: Feature not supported' error on my N80 with the latest firmware installed. Anyone with a similar problem or a fix? --ST.

Can't get it working...
I can't get this app to work on the e61 or e62. I guess I have to keep using threadSMS. Does anybody know how to get it working with these devices?
