Query regarding front screen
Hi all,
I've just ordered a replacement LCD for my N95 as the screen got cracked.
Could someone confirm whether the outer screen (the one that can get scratched) is part of the phone cover or the actual LCD itself?
If it's part of the outer cover then I will need to order another one of these too as it has a small hole in it where it got damaged.
I'm unable to take the phone apart to find out myself as the correct screwdriver is arriving with the LCD!
I hope this makes sense?!
Many thanks

Hi there - i THINK I understand what you mean...
I am quite certain that the screen you see is the actual LCD panel - there does not seem to be any protection over the panel.
I just ordered a new plastic facia (for the front) and it just has a big square hole where the screen goes - in other words, theres no clear plastic cover that goes over the LCD.
If I understand you correctly this means you have a hole in the actual LCD (as well as the crack) so replacing the screen will be all you need to do. I have NOT fitted my new facia yet so I am not 100% sure.
Out of curiosity did you notice any fluid leaking out of the crack in the screen?

Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply. The fact the cover has a hole would seem to answer my question
I have not had any liquid leaking out of the crack. I'm not sure if the crack/hole is actually all of the way through the LCD - it just looks like a broken window at the moment!

man I have ranted about it before but... WHY did nokia not give this phone a plastic face plate! The screen really is so vulnerable.
be interested to know how your screen change goes - I have heard its quite easy but I not convinced :-)

I'll let you know tomorrow. I'm hoping it's gonna be fairly simple!!!
To be honest I didn't realise how fragile it was. It was the first time I had dropped the phone too!
Fingers crossed :-)

Yes what you see is the lcd screen, there is no transparent cover over it, so you wont need to order a new fascia unless that is damaged as well.

Hi all,
Just to let you know I successfully changed the LCD. It was quick and easy.
I have also obtained an N95 Service Manual from Nokia in pdf format.
I shall upload it when I get home as hopefully it will be of use to someone

ah good news :-)
I am curious - how is the screen held in place once you have the front facia off? are there more screws or does the facia hold it on?

There are no more screws, just a small plug with a switch which you plug the screen into. The screen itself sits inside a small bay and is then held in place with the fascia - its very sturdy.

hmmm! I looked a the manual - says you are not supposed to reuse the screws that hold the facia on - is that bollocks or did you get replacement ones?

Yeah, I spotted that in the manual too.
I just re-used the ones I had and it seems fine

hehe cool. I wonder if you can buy the screws - I had a look online but did not see anywhere selling them. I can see myself losing one if I take them out!
