Contact names being displayed when they call or text

hello- I transfered my contacts from my PC to N95 and sometimes when people call or text the phone doesnt display their name. I have their name and # in contacts.

So I would get a text from JOHN DOE and it would read got a new text from 917 4444444 - this is annoying cause I dont remember peoples #'s


How can I fix this?

I think this has been mentioned before.

Do you have any duplicate contacts in your list, or some with an 0 prefix and some with the +44?

I have a few duplicates but no 0 or 44.

Any idea what to do?

Delete the duplicates, if you want the number to show up. With duplicates the phone doesn't know which contact to show.

A trick is to just add some number to the end of one of the duplicates. The number gets ignored while dailing, and the duplicate doesn't match any received number. So the original, now non-duplicate name shows when you receive a call.

This is a really bad Nokia thingy! All Nokia phones with duplicates in contacts, should display the newest entry. Not just show the phone numbers. Simple!

All Nokias have behaved like this. The phone doesn't know which is the "newest" number... Although it wouldn't be much work for the phone to detect a duplicate number when you add it your contacts..
