going to Singapore - what maps can I anticipate?

The N95 I have was bought in Singapore, but was never used there - ( sent to me while in another country).
So, at the end of the month I will be in Singapore. What maps can I anticipate with a stock phone when I power up in Singapore for the first time? Will I get any maps and details at all? Or do I need to download maps for the area/city?

You can get maps for Singapore, and you can preload them to your phone by using Nokia's MapLoader on a Windows PC. http://www.smart2go.com

No need for any third party software, unless you want to.

I live in Singapore and has N95 since it released here about 2-3 months back. I would be able to help you with your enquiry.

You can choose to load your maps with the CD provided, by downloading it with your PC from the Navfone website or using 3G data service in Singapore to do that which will cost you more.

In Singapore you would be able to navigate fairly accurately with the help of the software ASIA MAP supplied by Navfone (***.navfone.com/nokia/index.asp). This software and 3 maps of Asia comes free with purchase of N95. The vocal direction is free for 60 or 90 days. After that subscription is required. I downloaded KL/SG/PH. Navfone has very limited maps of Asia. I've also tried it at PH, but it wasn't very accurate there.

Last month, I formatted my Memory card once and wasn't able to reinstall this ASIA MAP software. I was informed the only way to install it is to bring

1. Warranty Card
2. Receipt

to any Nokia Care Center in Singapore and get them to install it for you. Remember to backup your memory card before you go. That service agency wiped off all my data on the memory card.

For list of Nokia Care Center in SG...

I've only tried simulation mode with the MAP software in the N95, haven't tried it live but it looks ok as well.

Regards,
Lance
