Micro SD capacity
Hi there,
I am looking to purchase a mem card from emartbuy on eBay (thanks to the vote of confidence from users on this forum) - my only concern is that larger capacity cards will soon be available, 4gb would be nice for music etc.
So If anyone is aware of a time scale for larger cards let me know and I will get a cheap generic card as a stop gap, I dont want to spend £40 on 2gb to find 4gb available for £60 in a few months time!
Many Thanks

This is the one I got, £20 in total, seems to work really well.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Micro-SD-2Gb...6656327&sr=8-2
Sandisks website says the N95 supports up to the 4gb card, but all the previews to the release of the N95 said it didn't, so I would be carefull going for one that big until its confirmed they are supported.

Thanks adz06 - Im sure larger cards will be supported no problem with current firmware (I would guess the biggest card they could test at the time was 2gb?) and deffo with updated firmware. Is there a need to go for the 'ultra' 9mb/sec model over the one you went for? I.E will there be a big difference in loading apps etc

I've not noticed apps running off the card running any slower than from the phone, I have the maps for england stored on it and it only takes the maps program a second or so to load the map of the area im in.
To be honest, speed isnt a big factor for me, but all I can say is it doesn't feel slow, it still takes a few seconds to take a pic though.

The buy-now price including P&P and VAT from emartbuy was £30.50 last week and that's for a fast 2Gb SanDISK Ultra II card.
Whilst you could wait for a 4Gb card, expect to pay £60 for the first 3 months it's available.
It's up to you... wait for expensive 4Gb or buy 2Gb now (You could probably sell your 2Gb card on eBay when 4Gb is available and affordable).

Hi Dez - looks to have gone up to £41 shipped now unfortunately.
If the standard cards arent too bad I think a 2Gb will tide me over until 4Gb comes out and drops in price.
Thanks

I heard... that ScanDisc, DaneElect etc all take much longer to load things up such as apps, photos, videos compared to the genuine Nokia versions...

when changing microSD
can I ask what should one do if going up from a 1Gb to a 2 or 4Gb mSD? I mean all the installed stuff will disappear and will have to be reinstalled? or can you back it all up via PCsuite and reinstall it back in the new card? Please suggest, I am new with Symbian, but that is what i would have done in my previous HP 6828 and 6365. Thanks

i believe you could just put your current card in a cardreader, copy all files (hidden files too) to your pc, and then copy it onto your new card. it should work.

From my experience you have to install everything again. this has been the case with all my previous symbina phones e.g. n73, n70, 6630, 3660. Unless sumthings changed with this phone you cannot

I am afraid this is not the case. I have been copying from one card to another since many S60 generations ago and it works. (Unless you reformated your phone or copy memory card of another phone)

got a 2GB microSD
i got one of SanDisk in Bangkok for 1590 Baht (35to US$ or 47to the Euro) and just copied all from the 1GB card to folder in the desktop and copied it all over to the 2GB and it works ok. I also did a back up via the PC suite just in case. Will let you know if anything weird happens.

MicroSD Cards - UK
I’m looking at getting a memory card at the moment so I’ve noted the prices between Amazon and Mobymemory for comparison.
I don’t know if anyone has noticed that a 4GB microSD card has become available on the mobymemory website, it’s a bit expensive but I’m sure it will come down in price over time.
I’ve used the local computer shop in the past and got a cheap memory card (Peak brand ), it kept getting corrupted. From then on I’ve always used Sandisk and had no problems at all. Although the first time I bought a Sandisk was of eBay from China and it turned out to be a fake and didn’t work in the phone.
Mobymemory
1GB microSD (Transflash compatible) Sandisk - £7.99
1GB MicroSD Ultra II (Transflash) Sandisk - £9.99
2GB MicroSD (Transflash compatible) Sandisk - £13.99
2GB MicroSD Ultra II (Transflash) Sandisk - £23.99
4GB MicroSDHC Sandisk - £51.99
Amazon
1GB MicroSD Sandisk - £3.13
1GB MicroSD Ultra II Sandisk - £6.70
2GB MicroSD Sandisk - £9.74
2GB MicroSD Ultra II Sandisk - £18.71
The prices above don’t reflect the postage cost and availability (Prices compared on 11 May 07).
*Ultra II transfer rates of: 10 MB/s Read and 9 MB/s Write
