Palm working on their own Linux platform

PalmInfoCenter is reporting that Palm has announced and is working on a new Linux based mobile platform. The new platform was announced at the Palm Analyst meeting and is described as a new foundation for Palm. The new platform will compete with Symbian OS although Palm has said they will not be licensing the platform.

Programming a smartphone OS with Powerpoint

Informative comment, that shows nicely what happened so far with Palm, a long and winding story already indeed...

My take on this: Seeing is believing. It would certainly be good for Palm if making press conferences and drawing Powerpoint slides could somehow magically result in a real smartphone OS

Even if it did become an open platform, it would still be missing the backing of a major manufacturer.

Symbian was created by a relatively small PDA company, Psion, but they had most of the major phone makers behind them so they knew they'd be getting their product out to a mass audience.
