Memory card for N95 question
I've been reading the excellent site and great community forums for some time and thought I'd take the plunge and join!
I'll start with a potentially silly question. I'm looking at two 1gb memory cards and am baffled by the difference between them:
Take this - Nokia site - http://shop.nokia.co.uk/invt/0276094...cessories,data - Nokia 1 GB microSD - £61
And this - Ebuyer - http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/117009 - Kingston 1GB Micro Secure Digital Card - which it says is okay for Nokia phones - £7
Am I being really stupid here? (If yes, say it politely.) What's the difference between them to warrant such a difference in price?
Also, separately, why does the N95 take microSD whereas the N70 was MMC? (Only just realised they were different things!)

They are both the same, just nokia are ripping ppl off if they sell at tht price. memory cards get faster and smaller theu time e.g. 6600 took mmc, n70 took rs mmc, n73 took mini sd, and now n95 takes micro sd. simply they are more verstile and expensive, but still relatively cheap.

Wow - fast responses round here!
Thanks menhel - I'm amazed that they're the same when the Nokia one is nearly ten times as expensive. Thanks for the advice.

shop around. I got a 2GB Sandisk card, brand new, off Ebay for under £10 including postage.

A word of advice about these, they may on the surface be the same but the difference is the speed.
Some cards are notoriously very slow to read/write, can't speak for the Micro SD's but I know Kingston RS MMC's are notoriously slow. This problem shows particularly when filming video or trying to save anything, it also makes menus slower to load up too. I would imagine though over-priced the Nokia one is built to be quicker and more efficient in it's operation.

Good point. I've managed to find out the Sandisk card can read data from the card up to 8.2MB/sec and write data at 7.7 MB/sec.
I've been unable to locate any data on the Nokia branded card although bear in mind Nokia may well simply rebrand someone else's card - a bit like supermarket's own brand goods except charging a premium rather than a discount!

Also be very careful with ebay as there are quite a lot of fake cards on there being sold, ie cheap / poor quality generic cards rebranded as Sandisk etc. For the few extra quid I'd recommend getting a card from somewhere like Mobymemory, Ebuyer, Amazon, or Play.com etc, who should be trustworthy.
