Free Sports Tracking re-discovered

Released today with absolutely no fanfare, the free Nokia Sports Tracker (which seems to share quite a bit in common with the built-in suite on the Nokia 5500 Sport) integrates your smartphone and your GPS with exercise-related data-logging, stats and export to Google Earth. Again, the E-series blog got there first with an excellent overview.

Read on in the full article.

Potentially great app!

I will give this a run out over next few days as it is a potential replacement for the £150+ Garmin Forerunners, plus you have the safety aspects of being able to use your phone if you get an injury 10 miles from home!
Would like to see option to change units from km to miles.

Unhappy First experience: Unreliable

Tried this app. first time on my new Nokia N95 this weekend, and was amazed by how fast I was running!! But when studying results, I found that my max speed was 203 km/h. Well, I have been running 5-6 times this spring, but do not belive I have improved that muchk. My average speed was also quite a bit faster than I had expected. Even with some walking, I had an average speed of 4½ minute pr. km on a 10 km trip. I guess the trip was not more than 8-9 km.

I would love to have this program work reliable, but if I can not trust the results (of course it can not be 100% accurate, but it need to be more accurate), it is worthless.

Hopefully, the program, or gps software in my Nokia N95, will be improved!

Worthless

I used it for some times now, both cycling /walking, it completly useless, using it since 1.37 now 1.42, my bike has a very accurate trip meter, it showed 4.2 km and sports tracker show 10.4 km !!!! Off with 6 km, even with the filer it jumps all over the damn place. I got nokia ld 3w gps with sirf 3 chip, either its broken or the gps just suck big time. very disapointed to say the least.

Do you know if it is beacuse of the qps within the phone? would it work better with an external gps receiver attached?

might do a little exercise with my n80 and globalsat 359 and my n95 at the same time. will report back when i have time

Well... I know that the N90 sat does not work when it is in you pocket. Started the N90 and put in my shorts pocket and it failed to retain/maintain a satillite link. My n80 +globalsat 359 does work when it is in a bum bag.

After the run i ran the test in the car and did the same route i ran.

in car N80+Globalsat N90
Distance 4.45km 4.42km
speed average 38.6km/h 38.7km/h
speed max 52.3km/h 52.6km/h
pace avg 1:33min/km 1:32min/km
pace max 1:08min/km 1:08min/km

running
Distance 4.75km
speed average 7.0km/h
speed max 10.7km/h
pace avg 8:30min/km
pace max 5:36min/km

the graph for speed vs time and speed vs distance look very similiar, however altitude vs distance where about 80% similiar without printing out the graph

will try and hook some thing up on the bicycle for another day

Unhappy Nokia Sports Tracker

Hi, I tried this application out for the first time today whilst cycling to work. I have a N95 which I mount on my bike's handle bar. At first all seemed to be well, it was tracking my speed, distance and even altitude and everything seemed to be fairly accurate. Then it crashed. I started again, and it crashed again. It crashed 6 times after about 1 1/2 or 2 mins or so before I finally gave up. Does anyone know if this is because the application is just buggy or am I doing something wrong? I'd love to get the application running consistently.

Cheers, Dave

Update - after re-installing it runs fine, and I think it's a really cool app - especially for free!

Cool Sports tracker on Nokia 6110 Navigator

Hi,

I just got the Navigator a couple of weeks ago, and the other day I decided to go running with the phone to try out the sports tracker.
One simple word. AMAZING! it was so cool, to know the exact distance, the speed i was running and the route i took.
But exporting the route i had taken onto google earth was just top noch.

I had my phone in one of the pockets of my shorts, it was shut and still worked very accuratly even running through parks with loads of trees.

One little inconvenient. It uses AGPS too oftent to get its possition, so pulling data from the 3.5G network just left me with no credit at all. But still its very cool training with it.

Definetively doing it again.

Thumbs up Sports Tracker

Well what can I say, I’m 40 - over weight and need the exercise, my boss put me onto sports tracker, and it is fantastic, I have been out everyday. I've been able to compare performance day on day and can share the whole thing with friends and family, it has motivated me to go out everyday and I can’t wait to get back after my ride and upload to Google Earth. The work out summaries graphs & replays are excellent features.

Took me a while to get used to it, but I have it down to a tee. I use it on the N73 with TomTom and a separate BT device. Now all I need is for a BT heart monitor which inputs the data into the app.

Five star app and it’s free

Thumbs up pedometer on the sport tracking?

I like the software very much since it is very easy to use hopefully it also be as accurate.

I just wondering because on the Walking profile they have pedometer. Does it really use the the accelerometer on n95 or n82?

N82 with sport tracker - brilliant!

The sport tracker is a brilliant idea, i used it today on my new N82 and it worked really well, i had the phone in by backpack and checked it every so often and it came with the same results as my bike computer. I did a total of 22 miles and there was only a differnce of 0.15 miles distance, i would like to be able to see the map aswell as the route though. also when i uploaded it to the sport tracker comunity it displayed wrong on the site, it apeared as though i went about 30 miles out of my way in a perfect strait line. Couldnt get it to upload to google earth, keep getting an error, but ill take a look at that another time. its really good software to keep track of your workouts though, would also like to be able to sync to my own computer rather than the nokia site only.

sports tracker

I have Sports Tracker on an E71 - the first couple of times I used it it ran perfectly. It tracked me 20 miles into London on my bicycle recording my exact route even though zipped up inside a pannier case - brilliant! But since then each time I try to use it for cycling or running the GPS part of the application seems to crash after about a mile. The timer is still running but no further speed or distance are being recorded - anyone else had this problem? Andy
