Which Symbian OS smartphone?

Deep breath. OK, I've had to make my Symbian OS only, for size reasons. But for smartphone fans who have their heart set on a S60 or UIQ smartphone, can I modestly suggest that this is a first port of call and ?

Is this symbolic of the direction of the Smartphonesshow as well, Steve? Or is it really just for size reasons? Has WM been ousted? I wouldn't blame you - and if only S60 (for 'tis, I fear, what we're left with) could sync on-the-fly with Outlook in the same way that WM does, WM would be dropped like a stone, I guess.

I think you need to revisit the P990i. Software stability and battery life are significantly better after the latest firmware upgrade.

Is the E90 battery life that bad (half score compared to E61) ? Or is it most likely an issue with pre-production unit only?
I really hope that E90 battery life would be better than E61...

Just size reasons, the HTML table was already wider than most people's displays and here I was about to add four new devices!!!!!!!!!!!! A WinMob table would be good to do if I had a little more experience of some of the devices (I've only really had serious hands-on time with 4 or 5)

Err... SEUS (FX:spit) says my R3 firmware is up to date. 8-(

Undoubtedly pre-production, but there will of course be extra factors to do with RAM size, display size, hungry camera (if used) etc.

Hi Steve and all,
Very interesting according to the results from my criteria choices i should be getting a E61i just over a E90 with my actual phone and current device of N93 in third.
The E61i doesn't appeal to me although i admit it is a great device, the E90 obviously I am in awe of its power and Ram but again IMO it is a little too business orientated for my needs. Now the third placed device which is my current device and is the one i have no intention of even considering upgrading from.

So I am now confused as to what is going on, do i just not know whats best for me and am letting my heart rule my head or is the system like all less than perfect? A very confused and unhappy

Marc

Haha, we all come from different angles, don't we? That's the fun thing with AAS and its predecessors!

Steve, your table is quite good but could be great with few small fine-tuning:
- to solve the size/width issue, why not removing the device score columns, and just keep the questions. The indication how all devices score could be put below the questions/test. I would then be less influenced to pick the priorities that led me to my preferred device (emotionally;-)
- instead of not/quite/very, why not an extra granularity with not/important/very/essential (0x,1x,2x,3x) ?
Thanks!

I love AAS.

I read it daily.

I have read and deeply respected Steve's information on all things palm-sized for years.

I think, though, that Nokia are funding AAS to some great extent!

UIQ constantly gets short shrift and WM is dropped from the chart just as 6 launches.

"Size reasons"!?

Come on! You guys can build pretty solid databases and my browser can scroll both left and right!

UIQ smartphones don't make it easy for themselves. IMHO they were all late and buggy - my P990i is still boxed, awaiting an upgrade to its appalling R3 (branded) firmware. WM6? I'm happy to do a separate grid for WM devices.

Note that the Grid is static HTML (plus a little javascript) and isn't on AAS at all. Nothing to do with Rafe! If someone wants to knock up a PHP version based around a database, I'd be happy to work with them on the project....

Scrolling is a problem though, as you lose track of which scores are against which attributes etc. Anyway, my expertise is mainly with Symbian OS devices, so it made sense to limit the Grid's scope to these.

Hi all,
To who ever wants to see WM devices in the charts i think the clue is in the name of the Forum. After all it isn't All About Smart phones is it?

Marc,

Point taken. OTOH, it has always been nice to see - on the chart - how poor M$-powered units were vis-a-vis Symbian-powered phones.

I think the gap has closed. I think NOK are concerned.
