Sense of Humor Failure - Outlook contact sync problem

I am two minutes away from violent disassembly of my W950i.

Please can someone shed light on this situation?

I have a new W950 and cannot sync it to my Outlook contacts. It starts to sync and then hangs up at about 250 (of 800 contacts) and I get a 'General Error' on the computer and a message that says the phone is not connected (it is). At the same moment, the phone announces an error with !SyncMLSyncAgent and reason 9. From this point, the contacts on the phone seize up and it must be restarted.

I am able to sync Notes and Calendar with no problems at all.

I have tried the following:

(1) reinstallation of the software and handset, with and without firewall
(2) updating the firmware
(3) detecting and repairing outlook
(4) dumping sections of my contacts into a new contact folder and synching just those. This works in small batches but eventually I have another failure
(5) replacing the handset entirely (I have exactly the same issue with the new one)
(6) every possible permutation of the above 5 points

I love this phone but it is useless to me without my contacts on it. SE have not been able to help. This forum is my last hope.

Hi how are you connecting it to computer ?
If your using the front usb change it to a rear usb input .
I had a similar problem transferring large files using front usb.

Unhappy

Thanks very much but no luck. I am connecting by USB, but had the same error on the rear hub.

I have tried everything...I think I might have to choose a different phone:(

Sorry yo hear, I try to simulate your situation but my contacts too small to even make a dent. Anyway here is some blind guess which is better then nothing i suppose.

1. disable keylock, screen saver, inactivity lock etc on the phone
2. If on windows system try go to device manager untick "allow computer to turn of this device to save power" in power managment of the USB Hub that you are using
3. Do you have any 3rd party contacts management software install in the phone?

Hope that helps... cheers

Edit ps: you mention you try small batch untill it hangs, does it always hang at 250? it just a passing thought on the 255 max

Outlook Sync

Hi,

I continue to experience the same problems - failure to recognise the W950i is connecetd to any of 3 USB ports, failure to initiate synchronise, and crashing while sync'ing.

FYI - I sync 4600+ contacts + 10 notes, no tasks, alarms, e-mails, from ACT6 with Outlook 2003 using Companionlink - works rapidly and smoothly. I then try & sync the W950i using Sony Ericsson PC Suite for Smartphones.

My final solution which does seem to work, for me, is to do a full Phone Media reformat.

These problems appear to be progressive, in that I sync once a week. After a few weeks following reformatting the problems start to arise, randomly, exacerbating until the PC does not see the phone is connected. This may be from 5 - 10 sync's..

Unless I'm missing something, I find the Sony Ericsson PC Suite for Smartphones most frustrating in that files are hidden. It appears impossible to clear the phone media memory from the PC.

As I have a fair amount of data I feel this would be a quick remedy ?

Hope this helps ??

Victor

Thank you guys so much for the suggestions.

Nothing has worked so far, but I am not giving up. Vicent can you tell me: if you reformat the media memory, how do you replace the applications? Will a firmware update do it?

In the meantime I am trying to find third party sync software that supports Outlook and Symbian...so far no luck (requires server/doesn't work with Outlook). Can anyone suggest?

Still desperate :(

An internal format will totally reset to the state when you first switch on the phone (much more powerful then master reset), Do an internal format will loose all settings and profile and third party apps (some third party apps will reinstall itself if you install on external media but - some of these dont work well afterward so you need to reinstall them all over again) in addition you wont get back the inbuild themes sounds and wallpaper that came with the phone, you can download them again from SE site 1 by 1 which is hassle so back them up. You can do the internal format via service menu press the following sequence:

*
spin jog dial up 1 click
*
spin jog dial down 1 click
spin jog dial down 1 click again
*
spin jog dial down i click
*

An SE update will update newer firmware all the themes and wall paper sounds will get reinstall again, but it only update if your firmware is older, so you cant use that as a mean of getting back apps or reinstall your phone. It worth it to do a SE update, i found that it work faster less freeze and some minor changes for the better eg keylock will now also lock the volume key, speaker touch button appear on dial out dont have to wait for "transfer sound" menu.

Resolution.

I was about to send the phone back today, when I decided to dust off my old laptop and try to do the sync on it. It worked.

So whatever my problem is, it has to do with my Vaio laptop settings or some problem between my laptop and the phone or its software.

I am going to keep it now....it won't be convenient to sync, but at least I can do it.

regards

Synchronize function does not work

Dear all,

I only hope that someone can help me with this. I have only recently got the W950! which seems to be a fantastic handset. Yet, I am encountering a problem with the Synchronize function of the Ericsson PC suite. I can connect to my pc via either a bluetooth or a USB connection (normal and fast file transfer) and i can perform all operations apart from Synchronizing anything with the PC. For instance, i have installed additional languages, tranfered MP3 files, and backed up my phone contents; however, when I press "Synchronize now" on the PC Suite it does not launch anything (the phone shows connected with the PC). I also try to change the settings of the PC Suite but still the PC Suite does not respond. When i attempt to make an "Advnaced Sync" i get an error which says that i need first to select Synchronization Settings, but i cannot.

I have tried several potential solutions, uninstalled the PC Suite version that comes with the factory CD and downloaded and installed the newest version from Ericsson's website but it hasn't worked. I have also installed the latest updates for the handset but still nothing happens.

Has anyone else encountered anything similar to this? Suggestions to deal with this are most welcome.

Thank you!

There is a recently released firmware update which I suggest you apply to your phone via the Update Service. I had a very similar problem and it was solved by this update.
