Angry That will be the and of UIQ3.0

The quick update (less then one year) can only mean that current P990, M600i and W950i users have been the beta testers for Symbian 9.x and UIQ3.x technology and Symbian 9.2 and UIQ3.1 will be the real thing.

To be fair UIQ has been around a while. It was announced more than 2 years ago. In the same time period S60 has had two updates (Feature Pack 1 and 2)...

It'll be interesting to hear more about it though. I'll see what I can find out at 3GSM.

...and then when they bring out 3.2 I suppose you'll say the 3.1 users were the beta testers... ;-)

I honestly don't see the problem with companies bringing out incremental updates. If a product does what it claims, why does it matter if a better product comes out a short while later? It's like people who worry about the January sales because they've just bought something for Christmas.

AFAIK this doesn't breaks compatibility with 3.0, so it's not going to affect the choice of software that 3.0 users will receive in the future.

I guess that some people will always feel the need to complain. If SE had waited 2 years before releasing an updated version of UIQ, i bet that we'd have seen Unregistered coming here to complain that it took so long for SE to release the new UIQ version while Nokia had released 3 new S60 version in the meantime... (Nokia has already released a new S60 version since the first 3rd edition one and has announced the 2nd update).

Unhappy I did not complain when the P910 came out

I complain because the P990i does indeed feel like a beta test.

I did not have this kind of problems with my P900. I have never been as desperate for a Firmware update either. I mean, have you seen firmware tracking sites [2] for the P900. and if so - have theyever been as lively. Go ahead, look at the history - some entries are update twice a day!

Looking at the pictures Rafe posted, where's the task switcher (used to be in the status bar) and where the quick launch menu (diito)? The themes are all currently available so all that is new is the lack of the above icons. Is this good? And do we have any idea what that waffle about multi-tasking actually means?

PS The M600i is fabulous now - ditch your P990s and get a UIQ phone that works! ;-)

Thumbs down

The Sony m600i was definitely the worst phone I have ever had because of the software.

The interface is a mess but you can get used to it. The real problem is the super slow speed of it all and the inconstant interface that doesn't let you use it with just one hand.

I got a blackberry and don't miss a thing about the Symbian OS. Not a thing.

In all likelihood no. It is possible, but would be uncharacteristic; it is more likely that you have to get a new 3.1 based model, instead.

m600i the best phone around!

with the latest firmware (still 3.0) all stupid bugs are gone, gui is quick and with windows vista or vista media player theme is daaaamn beautifull!

I'm bt/usb synchronizin it with home/outlook, work/lotus... gmail auto fetching directly to messaging inbox... msn/icq always on (IM++)... watching series... my BT Stereo headphones and 1 GB mem make it a perfect media device... online banking thru https... google maps with sat pics... games.. rss feeds... all this in a beautifull package! And yes, nice 3G data speeds of download!

with the gui set to ICONs instead of LIST (and a good screen protector) it makes the touchscreen a wonderfull feture and a keyboard a perfect addition!

dont remeber when it crashed last time... yes from time 2 time I need to close some software to release some memory but who cares? ofcourse a device providing all this functionality needs some maintainance!

I can't wait for 3.1! Hope I can upgrade... :/

iPhone looks nice... but all that without 3G... huh`? only that makes m600i light years more advanced!
