WiFi access point still in use after closed browser.

Hi,

For some reason my WiFi "clover" doesnt go away once i have closed my web browser, it used to no problem.

I don't know whether this has got something to do with upgrading to N80ie.

At the moment im having to turn my phone off and back on again!

Very annoying.

it should close the same as when you had N80.

I had this issue yesterday with VoiP... but all sorted after restart.

Cant give you a good answer tho...

similar issue used to happen on N80.

you have to check some of your settings, for example some of your sip settings may get changed to always on when you use them, I've had this problem with a couple apps which change to always on when you use them and you have to manually change them back to always ask.

Its weird, after about 20/30mins just sat with it on, its turned itself on and the battery level jumped down to 4 bars!

I read that you should deselect the access point from file sharing in the file sharing option on home network, this doesnt work.

As truphone is the only other difference apart from the firmware i will have a look around those settings and see if there is anything causing a problem.

Have you tried going to tools>conn. manager and pressing c on the active connection?

Connection manager?

Do you mean, tools>settings>connection>access points> and then pressing c on the wifi connection?

It wont let me delete it when its in use.

And i didnt find anythin in the SIP settings, this is weird!

Sorry, I think it's actually in Connect.>Conn. Manager (I moved it). That will list all the active connections open and being used. There should be a WiFi connection active in there if you have a clover on the screen. Press c on that to end the connection and that should clear the clover.

If it starts up again straight away then one of your apps is set to always connect to the WLAN.

I didnt know about that menu!

Thanks very much, it had been running 36mins, no battery now!

The silly thing is, its my home wifi, and im at work so no where near it, it should never have connected in the first place.

No worries - glad I can finally help someone!

Did it start up again afterwards? I have Truphone and had to ask it not to always connect.

Just check Truvoip - Internet>Internet Tel.>Options (left soft key)>Settings>TruVoip Settings>Login Type>Manual.

If it's set to automatic it'll connect whenever you're near one of your access points.

Sorry for the double post, but it took me a while to find that setting!!

No problem, its not reconnecting so my battery life is ok for now!

I'll make sure Truphone doesnt get its own way!

I used to have that problem, too. I normally have to restart to get it to disconnect because I can't access the Connection Manager whenever it happens. I'll keep an eye out for it and try your advice next time.

I've tended to notice that my WiFi connection tends to stay active if my Web browser crashes (and then it finally decides to disconnect once I re-open the browser, GRR!).

I have always used that Connection Manager > Atcive Data Connections > C, technique to close it in that sitation.
