No... 8-)
I can repeatably produce problems on an empty device with different empty cards..... I suppose it's possible mine is an early unit and has a hardware fault.....
Sigh....

Just to add that in the end I had the unit replaced.... with one on v11 firmware, which works fine. So I still don't know whether it was the v20 or not....

Is it even up on NSU yet or is Nokia skipping v20 version altogether for something better? There's something fishy about that fw, but I can't put my finger on it because it works so well for me.

Looks like Nokia has withdrawn the V20 firmware in the UK at least. As when my N93 came back from repair by Nokia it stated it had been flashed to the latest firmware which proved still to be V11.

I have 20.0.058 and so far it's been the most reliable Nokia i've ever owned (and the quickest!).
Is it possible to flash the N93i's firmware onto an N93? I only ask because the camera images are said to be less noisy..

OK, a definitive answer, feel free to quote this elsewhere on the net. v20.0.058 is definitely buggy. I have a totally different, virgin N93 and had this upgraded to this firmware, only to see the same symptoms: after several video recordings have been made in the same session, you'll suddenly get one that freezes the Camera application, requiring battery removal to recover. Apart from that, the firmware seems stable enough - I'm guessing that I'm simply a video recording power user and that's why I've been hitting the bug more than most.

Yes, you have the 'latest'. AAS is a good place to start for apps. Just use the 'Software' tab etc.

ok thanks...I find the apps on this phone painfully slow...stresses me out
also photos are very grainy if it is not a sunny day or bright light. My samsung D600 is way better than the N93 at photos.

"Painfully slow"??? Err... what are you trying to do exactly? Do tell me you're not exiting each app after using it etc....?

Hi, I just bought an N93 from a friend and it's already upgraded to the newest firmware version. I've ordered a memory card, but it hasn't arrived yet, so I'm currently using the phone without a memory card. Like the OP, I also get freezes when recording and the file doesn't get saved. I can return to the home screen or whatever it's called, but I can't go back into camera mode until I turn the phone off and on again.
So using phone memory and no memory card, it happens too. I have probably shot 20 very short videos and it's crashed 3 times so far.
I don't have much storage space left though, so I wonder if that's what's causing the crashes. If your phone is crashing too, check how much internal memory you have available, even if you're recording to a memory card. You never know, it might be related.

I've never had trouble with the video taking ability. I take a video on average of once a week (about 3 - 4 minute clips) and I've had the phone for about 3 months. I've had it freezed twice in the first 3 days, while in the still pic camera mode.... never happened again since then, :shrugs:

I'm now back on the N93 and thought I'd round up the thread with a final comment on v20 firmware. I'm generally very happy with it, the video freeze bug seems related to trying to record video clips one after the other, perhaps before the OS has finished finalising the file for the previous one? By waiting longer between clips, I've largely eliminated the freezes, thankfully.
