Stay clear of v20 firmware
After a week of v20 on my N93 I thought I ought to feed back. I'd advise staying away from this build - stick with v11 instead.
With v20, I've had numerous instances of the camera process freezing and needing a power cycle to fix, plus two instances of a background process going into infinite loop and making the device very warm and draining the battery.
The last straw was filming my daughter's church nativity scene and Camera going awol at the end without saving the file 8-(((((
Anyone else having problems with v20?
Steve

Hm i've had it for quite some time now, but not as much problems. I must say I've only shot a couple of video's with it in that time (5 or so), but I have been using the device heavily in other areas; gaming and other programs. I take pictures regularly. Only prob i've had is b/w video when filming in poor light conditions.

I have to go with Jules_N93 here. I've had the firmware for a couple of weeks now and I've seen none of the camera mishaps you describe, Steve. I've made around 40-50 clips during that time. Some as long as 30-40 minutes. I surely have had a few freezes while testing emulators and some not so compatible Java stuff, but nothing out of the ordinary.
Could this be mem card related, perhaps?

Hi steve, I had the same problem as you have been having with v20 with v11 where the camera froze and on occasion some background opps going into an infinite loop and severe battery drainage. I later discoverd that its was memory card related as it worked fine when i took the card out. I have now formated my memory card and all seems to be working fine now.

Hmm..... the card is a reliable (and genuine) SanDisk Ultra II - I guess it's worth a try - I'll copy off contents and rebuild - but I'm a little sceptical!

Rebuilding the card seems to leave me with funnies still, I've not green+star+3 hard reset it and am rebuilding the whole system from scratch. I'll report back.

i've had v20 of the firmware for over a month now and it has been rock solid... not a single crash, not even when ultra-zooming in the gallery...
phone is quick and responsive...

Well, I've been taking odd videos all morning (after wiping both internal memory and card) and all's fine so far - though I haven't loaded *all* my third party software back on yet..... we'll see!

Nope, still no go. I've had two battery-out camcorder freezes today.
Most of my software is now back on (only mainstream stuff like TomTom, Y-Browser, Handy Safe etc.), so I *suppose* it could be some wierd interaction with something 3rd party, but my gut feel is that it's a bug in v20... 8-( It's not a card problem since the same 2GB SanDisk Ultra II has been in the N93 for five months now and worked perfectly with v10 and v11 firmware.
Wish there was a way to downgrade firmware.....

Hi all,
I upgraded to the latest Firmware V20 just a week ago and my experience has so far been all good. The gain in speed is staggering boot up greatly reduced and all apps now open without delay or lag as does screen orientation on switching to Laptop/Landscape mode. Plus of course the front facing Camera no longer activates after the Camera's been used, I am also using a SanDisk 2gb MiniSD and the only app installed on this is Tom Tom 6 my other apps are installed to the phone memory and are Handy Taskman, Handy Clock, Screenshot and NSysInfo and all is working perfectly for me.
I don't understand how or why for some of us this upgrade has been so good whilst others are experiencing so many problems it doesn't make much sense. There also seem to be some whose N93's get slower and slower and only a reformat solves the problem for it to return with time. i wish i had the answers but obviously i don't and just hope that these issues get resolved for everyone to able to use their N93's to it's full potential.

I've had the n93 packaged with v20 FW for a few days now. The first day I had it, the phone freezed 2 times after a few minutes of use. Took out the the old sim and put in a new one that came with the phone. Worked just fine. Funny enough, i swap in the old sim card again and couldn't reproduce the freezing issue again. Lucky me.
The camera froze a few times on me as well (after taking a pic, it wouldn't save to my sim - and the image of the pic stuck to the screen until i closed the flip. Decided to check the video to see if it had the same problem - no problem there. Switched back to camera - lo-n-behold - worked perfectly fine and never had the problem since.
I've taken about 10 video clips so far, most of 'em bout 5 mins. No problems there. Everything else looks good and seems fine.

In the interests of experimentation, I wiped the internal and expansion cards of the N93 and started using it as a virgin device, taking photos and videos. I had three battery-out freezes in the first day or so. I'm sorry, but v20 is buggy, buggy, buggy, at least in terms of camcorder functionality.
8-(

And I've also eliminated the card from the equation, swapping my 2Gb card for a 1Gb one. Same symptoms - random seizures after pressing 'Stop' to finish a video recording. Happens about one time in 5 and drives me MMMAAADDDDDDD!
Stay with v11 firmware.

What really bothers me is that only some N93 units seem to have this issue with v20, while others don't. How hard I try I can't seem to recreate your problems. What are possible factors that would cause this difference?
Language version? Differing components inside due to varying manufacturing date and/or factory? Different firmware settings during flash?
Either way, you're right about the firmware being buggy, unless your phone is simply faulty one way or another.
Maybe you've pimped it too hard?
