Can't update my N73 with N.S.U.

Hello,
I can't update my N73 with the N.S.U.
I get the message No software updates available for your
phone, but that can't be right. I have firmware
V2.0628.0.0.1
10-07-2006
RM-133
Nokia N73 (57.02)

My phone is a N73 RM-133

Why is this happening ??
Anyone ?

cor

Yep, I get exactly the same message as you - and have exactly the same firmware version as you.

I assumed that I was on the most current version (so nothing to update) - but perhaps this isn't the case?

This is probably down to localisation issues.

I know of at least one person who sucessfully upgraded a UK Orange spec N73.

I am going to try my "vanilla" handset later today.

I live in the Netherlands and it's just a dutch phone with
no branding or whatever.
Several people can upgrade their phone here but I can't !
It's very frustating.

I updated my uk O2 N73 by changing the product code using Nemesis Service Suite.

I changed it to 0529785, I think you can use phoenix to do this as well. This allows the updater to think it is a generic firmware and NSU worked straight away 😊

Now the phone shows:

V 3.0638.0.0.1
30-10-2006
RM-33
Nokia N73 (08)

Has anyone on ORANGE done this? I have changed my product code and it says an update is available but I don't dare press Start :con?

I don't see why it would be a problem if you make sure to back up to memory first but maybe you might lose some orange apps?

Oh no, dear god NO, not the Orange applications! *sarcasm is great, isn't it*
Nah good point though, thanks. I just thought Orange being annoying might have done one of their classics, i.e. changing hardware to prevent "unbranded" IPL from booting on the phone. Okay, I'm going a bit into crazyness here.
Any other opinions?
Thanks Mark.

So, if I try the changing product code trick to update my O2 N73 firmware, will I lose my O2 mms and gprs settings - or do these get backed-up by the backup to memory card utility?

The only caveat to this is... you're technically invalidating your warranty by changing the product code, SO...

To prevent Orange or O2 or whoever getting narky, change the product code back to the original one once you've done the update 😊

(yes, ok, you'll have to change it again to do future updates, but better to be safe than sorry)

Whats the name of the software that changes the Product Code and where can I get it from?

Cheers!

OK, so using the method above, I managed to update my firmware.

PROBLEMS & WARNINGS:-

1. It's a 58MB download. Not a good idea on dialup or an unstable computer. After download, the install takes about 10 minutes.

2. Everything resets. Obvious, I know. Some people may not realise though.

3. When restoring from my memorycard backup, alot of stuff didn't make it for some reason. Mostly games, so no great problem.

4. I totally lost SmartMovie and my Anti Virus.

5. On backing up my phone memory to the memory card, My phone crashed and corrupted the card. Had to reformat the card to get the phone to recognise it. Backing up since has caused no problems.

6. I'll update this as I discover anything else.

That's because backup and restore didn't work properly in the previous firmware.

I've sucessfully update mine. 2 changes i've noticed:

1. Music Player: Playlist has been renamed to Tracklist
2. Music Player: At 10% volume, sound output is much quieter. (Which is what I wanted)

feel free to add

Please

I've just done this on my 1 day old N73 on Orange... Change the product code no probs, ran the update - took about 20 mins....

It DOES remove the Orange theme and branding!

Good or Bad, but it reformats phone with new menu options - along with a settings wizard which resets all the Access points/text/mms etc...

Changed product code back to Orange afterwards...

All seems fine

THANKS :icon14:

Edit: Yes, confirmed, debranding works for Orange too... Stupid point, but it's worth noting. Also, this doesn't seem to invalidate your warranty, providing you change the product code back... Don't ask how I found that out.

Hi all,

I've got a Generic N73 in UK on Vodaphone, the product ID is 0539101, can anyone please suggest which product code would be best to change it to using the NSS, so that I can use the NSU?

I assume after the flashing it, I can change the code back to 0539101 and this will not affect any future updates released for the correct product code?

Thanks

Hey Folks.

Finally going to give this a go and flash my Voda n73.

My Code: 0541044
F/W Version: 2.0628.0.0.1
Nokia N73 (34.02)

I've got NSS/NSU/etc installed.

Just wanted to know what's next (I believe I need a Euro2 code to put in there?)

Thanks in advance.
Matt

Thanks for the info and thanks also to Dolph for the nemesis link.

Now I changed the product code I too was able to get the software update without any delay or problem.

Many thanks

:icon14: 😊

I have also just upgraded my software on my n73 that was orange branded. My main reason for doing so is the orange software kept making the e-mail application close when you deleted e-mails. Something orange could not fix!

I did hope it would remove the bug with having the voicemail spool showing even when I have no messages, but thats still an issue.

Just upgraded my Orange N73. Excellent now it is fully debranded.

However, i too still have the answerphone message spool displaying even when i have no messages. Anyone know of a fix for this at all?:frown:

I really dumb here .. how do you use the nemesis software ?... ok so I need to change the code, even though the phone is not locked...

confused..

sorry!

Managed to use memphis, and then changed the code back to original, then to actually run the firmware updater, surprised how long it took though.
My question, I'm on O2, when I changed the code initially, if I didn't change the code back, would that have unblocked my phone from 02 :con?
If not is there a way with memphis to do this ?

Obviously I new to all this, so please excuse my ignorance.

What do u guys mean by the original code ? Are you refering to the original phone version, e.g. my phone is

v20628.00.3 27-07-2006 - RM133 30.02

Therefore, if I was to unbrand it, then this code would change ? or are you saying that within the phone is another code, wihhc relates it to my provide orange ??

SBK

What people are refering to is the PRODUCT CODE,, which is a six digit number. What you posted is your current firmware version, which of course will change.

By changing the PRODUCT CODE of your phone, you can upgrade the phone to the latest generic firmware (no network branding), but you CAN NOT unlock your handset from it's original network!
