Changed front fascia but a strange slider bug im impressed with!
Hello N80 users I just changed the front fascia to the nokia black one on my phone, I was intending to change the keypad and the whole case to black, until I saw what needed to be done! looks very unique now, as its a combination of the black case with the silver buttons and piping.
Anyway down to the nitty gritty 2 problems which are not problems as its made the phone much better but I'd just like to know where I went wrong, maybe it will help others if they dare to endeavour taking apart there N80
1. The keypad lights IE 123456789 are always on when the slider is up (Not when its down) this indicates that the light detector (which keeps the keypad lights off if your in a bright area) isnt working/detecting. Why? Though I prefer it how it is now.
2. When you open/close the slider I no longer get the pop up to say do I want to lock the keypad or not, this is one of the things I did not like about the N80 as you could have it in your pocket and if it slid open partly your keys would unlock! Now im not suffering from that problem! but why?
Cheers!

Don't know about the light sensor but the same thing with the slider happened to me when I replaced the fascia with a new, non genuine part bought from eBay on the cheap. It looked absolutely identical even down to the part numbers imprinted as part of the molding process but the slider didn't know if it was open or closed. I found this a bit annoying and had to bite the bullet and get a genuine part instead.
Is the fascia you bought a genuine Nokia part?
You're quite wise to have left it as a silver / black hybrid. I insisted on going the whole way with mine and ended up breaking it in several different ways, necessitating a lengthy trip to a high level NSC somewhere in Scotland.

Well the light sensor bug was me being stupid! It does work I just thought oh no lets make a post!
Yes the part is a genuine Nokia one, even though it did not come in any nokia packaging as such, but it fits perfectly. Bit of a stupid question I know I want to keep it this way but its nice to know where I went wrong.
Thanks for the reply

are you sure, theres a lot of stuff out there that looks genuine that isnt. i know there is atleast 1 nsc that sells over ebay, but you have to send your phone to them, if you do it yourself its the same price (ie inc fitting) they say its a nokia policy they cant just sell you a cover.

The seller is a reputable seller, I suppose its the same with most things there isnt a way to be 100% sure its genuine, it fits perfectly it looks exactly the same, though the keypad wasnt made properly incorrect fitting, but I didnt need it anyway and the keys part of a line on the bottom was blue bit scratched off with white underneath.
Regardless im happy I just took the whole phone apart and changed everything to black apart from the silver keys as it breaks up the black nicely.
It was touch and go while taking it all apart, I cut a tiny bit of the ariel sticker from the assembly but pushed it back on (bodge job) and its working perfectly thankfully. I made that sound worse than it was....
For all those people thinking oh my god take an n80 apart?!?! It was so so easy, I used the videos they train there engineers with to take apart the N80, just sit infront of the computer while its playing following EXACTLY as it says and does, (otherwise you get the ripped ariel or something worse!) and you cant go wrong.
Still the slider function doesnt work which is good as I like it like this, but not sure why.

I'd have to agree that vid covers pretty much everything you could ever want to know about tearing your n80 to pieces.

Thanks, I wish I'd had this before I wrecked my phone.
Unfortunately, I've not been able to download from the link. In fact, I've never managed to download anything successfully from RapidShare. I'm beginning to suspect they want me to sign up for the premium account.

Clue:
The slide mechanism works by magnetism. The magnet is on the back of the original fascia.
Big enough clue?
