Hi there again I just got a hit from a friend of mine who wants to join the ranks of proud N80 owners, who informed me that her contact in the UK who was checking on accessories for cell said that the N80 had/has a problem and has been recalled I found nothing at the nokia site. Is there any truth to this anyone?

Pure speculation!
News to me, but things do go wrong sometimes and recalls are required. If that's the case we'd at least all get new or fixed/better phones.
Or perhaps the batteries are made by Sony 😉

-is this simply a recall for a firmware upgrade? -that would make sense! -would be easyier and more cost effective for orange to wait for the online software upgrader thing to work with the n80, then they can just end a letter pointing people to that (with the option of sending the phone away if they dont have internet etc)
Given Orange's tendency to neuter the phones they supply they may be referring to issues with their own software running on the N80 - I've seen no indication outside of Orange's action that there is any issue with the N80 hardware and generic firmware itself (aside from the known and now fixed bluetooth issue). O2 are still carrying them (but they do very few mods to the standard setup) and Carphone Warehouse still has stock available on O2, 3, Vodafone and Orange..
I'd be interested in seeing a statement from Orange CS as to exactly what software is at fault and how the fault manifests - any customers of Orange fancy duking it out with their customer service 🙄 ?
just been on to orange customer services got passed around a few times. first i was told they discontinued the n80 2 weeks ago and then someone told me it hadn`t been discontinued, then again told it was. i asked if it was due to software problems and was told yes but they wouldn`t go into detail also asked if it was gonna be recalled they didn`t know and if it was we would be notified by letter.

Vodafone have also now discontinued N80.
Last week my phone stopped sending/recieving texts, and could not access any data link eg 3G and even WiFi... but phone calls still worked. I did a hard format, didnt fix it. I then Reflashed it with v4, and still the problem continued. So i asked for replacement, they sent it out next day... But they told me its been discontined, and I would be getting a Refurb unlike the 10 brand new N80s i have been through so far!!!
When it arrived, i tested it, and the bloody speaker didnt work!! eg, cant hear anything when on phone to someone!!
Ordered replacement number 12... It arrived, and thank god it seems good. (I need to flash it yet.. still on v3.)
Although I love the phone.... I think ive had enough of it! Really wanted a phone with both Hi res screen and WiFi... but doesnt look like theres any other nokias that do both.
Just waiting for N95/81 now... Hopefully its got WiFi??

N95 will have wifi.
I'm about sick of my N80 on Orange, I've had it for 2 months. Half the time I come to look at it, it has lost all signal and needs a restart. v4 Firmware.
Do you think I have any chance of swapping it for an N73?

Yeah you can its a lower value phone. Although i would recommend getting rid of anything Orange on the phone. Especially their music software. Orange's stuff should really be classed as Alpha or Beta. Constant restarts/needing restarts means 99% its a simple software issue.

????? although its still on there website, both the N80 and N91 have been discontinued. (according to customer support)
