My NokiaBerry field trip

We're still waiting for the E61 to show up on this side of the pond, but I managed to get my mitts on one by twisting some arms at the new Nokia store in downtown Chicago. I wrote up some impressions of the store (which is very cool) and a mini-review of the E61 from my brief encounter with it. A few pics of the glitzy surroundings included, just for fun.

One question that I didn't get time to answer for myself: does the E61 have keyboard shortcuts for doing common editing tasks like Ctrl-C, Ctrl-X, Ctrl-V, etc? Any shortcuts for selecting text a word, paragraph, or sentence at a time?

Also, I notice we do have some US users of the E61 here. They told me at Nokia that there was no way to get warranty coverage or support for this device in the US until it's released here. Has anyone got information to the contrary?

No US Support for E-series Phones

I can, in fact, verify that what you were told by Nokia is true. I know because I have an E60 and tried to ask a few questions. I was told by Nokia USA that they do not know anything about these phones and all they would do is give me the phone number for Nokia Europe. When I contacted Nokia Europe I was told that they only support residents of Europe. Fortunately, I have friends in Europe and was able to use one of their addresses to get some questions answered but for the most part I've had to rely on this and several other forums for help.

Yes there are common editing commands Copy, Cut, Paste, but not a lot more than that. You can select multiple bits of text using the shift keys are direction joystick.

Honestly the shortcuts could better. Some of the ones are standard S60 ones, but there aren;t very many that take full advantage of the full keyboard.

and thanks for sharing your experiences!

Thanks for the reply. By the way, is this about the same situation with the 9300? I got the impression somewhere that S80 makes better use of shortcuts, but I haven't spent enough time with one to discover for myself.

To answer my own question... yes, wow! Many more keyboard shortcuts supported in S80. Downloaded the manual for the 9300 and found this list of the general shortcuts (does not include application specific ones):

Ctrl+A Select all
Ctrl+C Copy
Ctrl+D Delete
Ctrl+F Find
Ctrl+I Sort
Ctrl+M Move
Ctrl+N New
Ctrl+O Open
Ctrl+P Print
Ctrl+S Save
Ctrl+T Full screen
Ctrl+V Paste
Ctrl+X Cut
Ctrl+Z Undo
Shift+Ctrl+E Zoom
Shift+Ctrl+G Next
Shift+Ctrl+L Log
Shift+Ctrl+P Previous
Shift+Ctrl+S Save as
Shift+Ctrl+U Page setup
Shift+Ctrl+V Print preview
Shift+Backspace Delete text from right
Ctrl+Telephone Open the Recent calls view in the telephone application
Chr+alphabet Insert an accented character
Chr+Tab Switch between open applications
Chr+Telephone key Redial the last dialed number
Chr+Messaging key Retrieve mail
Shift+Ctrl+Chr+S Screenshot

Excellent! (But too bad that a QWERTY device like the E61 doesn't have this kind of support)
