mail headers delete

i an not able to delete mail headers on the e61.. Any help will be appreciated.....many thanks

You press the delete key.

Headers will not disappear though until you next connect to the mailbox. This is because the actual deletion doesn't happen until you connect to the mail box.

To save confusion, Rafe, I think it's worth pointing out that it doesn't disappear from the phone's screen until you actually *disconnect* from the server (having connected after deleting on the phone). In other words, it will still show on the phone *whilst* connected. Also you need to take the option during deletion to remove from phone and server or it stays on the phone's screen.

Thanks for making that clearer Tim - I'm use to the bhaviour and should hav explained it more clearly. This is because (I think) it does the delete commands just before disconnecting. It different for Push email obviously.

Yeah.. that's how you delete those email headers, as explained by timsalmon and Rafe, but why is it like that? Why can't it just remove it once we choose delete.

Because this actually reflects when they are deleted (at least that what I would assume). Its more effecient to do it this way which I guess is always a major concern for phones etc.

On my Nokia 6680 the headers don't disappear after I disconnect either. The disappear if I delete from Phone and Server, but I don't want to do that since I need to keep the emails on the server. Doesn't seem like the 'Delete from Phone' feature works like it should since it doesn't delete the headers....

This is how the system works with this client. To delete from the phone means that the 'downloaded body of the email' is deleted from the phone but the Header remains - to remind you, I guess, that it's still held on the Server. In fact on 3rd Edit. devices, the option to delete from phone also says "Phone (hdr. remains)" which makes it a bit clearer - but this is the first time I've seen this - usually it just says Phone on older devices, which doesn't really make it very clear. It's actually a very efficient way of working with email IMHO.

Yes, I agree with what you say, and I get a notification that the header will remain on the phone. Is there no way of getting rid of the Header without deleting the email on the server? I find it annoying that they are there and that I see the email icon on the main panel when I have unread email.

I think you have the wrong phone! This is how the system works - if you have unread email, the device lets you know that with an icon. In the same way that you'd get an envelope if you have an unread SMS. Why would you not want to know that you have items waiting to be read? Isn't this one of the primary functions of this type of communicator? And no, there is no way of removing Headers as far as I know, except by deleting them from the Server. But again, I don't understand what the problem with that is - I am happy to see an appraisal of what's on the Server and what isn't.

This is the problem. If I have seen the headers once, and decided that I don't want to download the email to the phone, or, I have downloaded (and read) the email to my phone, I would like to delete the email. I delete the email from the Phone (leave it on the server since it needs to be there). At this point there shouldn't be any need to have the email header on the phone. I could have hundreds of emails on the server that I don't want the headers for on my phone.

There are two problems:
1. The email notification thing is not really a problem since I can just mark it as read without deleting it. I still get the notification icon if I delete the emails from the phone without downloading them (nothing is actually deleted since the email was never downloaded, just the header), and it would be nice if I didn't have to take this extra step.
2. I don't like that the header is left in the phone's memory after I delete it from the phone. When you delete an email from your PC's email client, it doesn't delete the email and keep the header.

I know that it is an old thread, but I had the same problem today with my 6120c (S60.3), and I have got this link from the Google at the first page.
So .... if you have the same problem:

It is simple.
Because you have defined a mailbox connection, your phone is trying to keep this working. That is why you can not delete the headers, because it would cause an inappropriate configuration.
So you have to delete the whole mailbox configuration on the phone.
Go to Messaging/Settings/Email/Mailboxes and you will find the mailbox there. Delete this (with option/delete).

The phone will delete a the whole mailbox, with the headers of course because there will be no need to keep those any more.

After that you can create a new mailbox if you want. It is worth to configure the connection for the outgoing email.
You can also configure the inbound connection, even if you do not want hundreds of email-headers on you phone:
You can keep synchronized just the inbox or just a few folders. Go Messaging/"YourMailbox"/Option/Email Settings/Retrieval Settings/Folder Subcriptions and check only the mailboxes that you want to keep synchronized.

It is not dangerous at all. The "mailbox" on the phone is just the parameters of the connection for your mailbox. Your "real" mailbox on the server with your mails will remain intact.

I think this is the single worst bug in the s60 email client. It should have an option limiting the amount of headers to keep on the phone because if you have lots of messages in your inbox the phone client will practically freeze and become unusable and the only way to remove the excess headers from the phone is to reconfigure the e-mail account.
