Firmware upgrades over the air! At last.
Although technically already announced to developers, S60.com has put up a pretty page (and detailed PDF) looking at not only S60 3rd Edition, but S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 (come on, keep up at the back), featuring built-in support for Firmware upgrades Over The Air (FOTA) - woohoo! I'm guessing current 3rd Edition devices will need a trip to a service centre to get FP1 - anyone know for sure?
Read on in the full article.

if you look at s60 2nd edition, it started with the 6600, I never heard of any 6600 having a firmware upgrade to support edge or wcdma or scalable ui.
I'd hazard a guess that the n73 will be FOTA capable, and so will the n93, e50, 5500, etc.

As always (in S60 world) Feature packs are not something that could be added to older models. None of the current announced products are FP1, so officially none of them can be FOTA capable.

As just stated, Nokia haven't announced ANY products with FR1 installed yet, even though FR1 has been known about for some time. (a Nokia dev. told me about FOTA in FR1 last October).
It'll be at least 9 months before we see any FOTA enabled devices. A bit of a poor show really, seeing as technically it's been possible all along. (as one other manufacturer did)

Anything is technically possible I haven't seen FOTA in any smartphone product yet, have you? So far only announced Nokia device to have FOTA is 6136, out 3Q/06.

Well, perhaps it's not really FOTA, but WM (and windows smartphone) devices can be firmware flashed by users. That, I think, is the functionality which we desire - not for the firmware to come over the air. Indeed, if FOTA means I need a 3G data plan, it'll be less than expected.
