Birthday Reminders
Does the N80 have automatic birthday reminders like the old Nokia used to have?

Yeah.
But from my point of view, it works the wrong way. An anniversary is related to a contact, it is not an agenda matter.
You can add a birthday field in the contacts, but without synchronisation (I don't and won't use any Outlook), it's totally pointless because you have to add it twice.
Why isn't the birthday contact field natively synchronized with the agenda (without using any third party program ?). That really upsets me.

The aniversary option also doesn't let you set a base year (example: birthyear)
The old nokia's would then automaticly let you know what age someone had reached.
I really miss that feature, and for as far as I see adding a birthdate to a contact (on the phone, not synching to anything) doesn't add anything to the calendar :(

It's exactly my point.
Hopefully a future upgrade might improve the birthdate management ?

I am confused
If I put the birthday in as an anniversary, is there anyway to set the alarm as recurring so it will go off every year? Coz thats all I really want it to do. I don't mind having to spend an hour or 2 initially entering say 50 or 100 birthdays of all my family and friends, as long as I dont have to reset all of their alarms every year.
If not, is there a third party Calenday/Clock application that has better birthday management?
Bobbles, I don't really use Outlook much, but are you saying I can enter the birthdays in the contacts in Outlook, and then make them alarm on my phone?

has anyone worked out a way around this yet? or is there even a 3rd party calenday/birthday app that allows you to do it? all i want is to enter the birthdays and have them alarm every year to remind me. i cant believe that the N80 has no simple and clear way to do this.
my mate has a 6230 which i still laugh at him about, yet he can enter birthdays through contacts, and it will alarm on their birthday every year, and even tell him how old the person is turning.
just a thought, has anyone with the V4 fw noticed this problem fixed? or maybe Nokia have finally allowed the birthday detail in the contacts to be synced with the calendar. just thought i would check. im still running v3.

Nope still nothing,
I installed aquacalender a while ago to try it out, and it managed to populate my calendar with the birthday information from my phone book, so at least i get reminders.

Well, you've to pay to be able to switch the flash on outside of the video mode.
You'll have to pay to have your mate's birthdate appear in the calendar.
On a 600€ phone, that's thievery.

I may have to give aquacalendar a try. Where might I find it? Does the trial version have a time limit, or simply limited finctionality? Coz really all I wanted to do is what rcastberg suggested; "populate my calendar with the birthday information from my phone book, so at least i get reminders". Especially seeing as I have already entered a fair few birthdays in the contacts.
"On a 600€ phone, that's thievery." <--Agreed. If a 6230 can do it, the N80 should be able to do it.

Well i just used it to populate the calendar, i think there is a time limit on the trial but not sure how long, you should be able to find it on allaboutsymbian software catalog or my-symbian.com

The way I got around this was to use the anniversary option in the default calendar and set it to reoccur. I would put the person's name and their year of birth as the subject.

I guess I will do it that way. Seems stupid to have to enter birthdays twice though. And AquaCalendar is a bit too expensive methinks. Oh well. Maybe it will be fixed on a future firmware upgrade.
