Alarm Manager problems

Having read a few positive comments on Alarm Manager, I downloaded the v1.4 trial yesterday to give it a go on my new N70.

Im not sure what Im doing wrong, but it would appear that I can only make the first alarm in the list play the correct midi file, the rest of the 8 alarms just vibrate and beep very quietly, hardly enough to distract you when awake let alone expect it to get you up in the morning! If I set two alarms say one minute apart, the first one in the list uses the correct midi, the second and subsequent ones dont, regardless of what time order they are set.

What am I doing wrong? From the Smartbian FAQ it seems to suggest that Alarm Manager only uses the one tone and they can't be specified individually, which is fine, but it doesnt seem to want to do that.

Any ideas?

One other issue I found this morning, Ive specified the brook.mid file for alarms which fades in and gets louder as it plays, but I noticed this morning that if the phone is plugged into the charger, it appears to start off much louder than it does if set whilst not plugged into the charger, I was half asleep and didnt get time to properly test it again, but it seems it starts as loud as possible right from the off

The first alarm uses the functionality of the phones standard alarm clock (and whichever tone is specified for it).
Alarms 2 to 8 use the Calendar's alarms.
To get the ring of your choice for these alarms, go to Calendar->Options->Settings->Calendar Alarm Tone, and choose the tone you want.
You will also find that alarm No1 will not display a text on screen when it alarms.
Alarms 2 to 8 WILL show any text reminder at the alarm time - very useful function.
If you have problems or suggestions, drop a mail to the author, Igor.
He's very helpful and open to suggestions.

Can't help with the prob when the phone's on charge but I suspect this is a function of the phone rather than 'Alarm Manager'.
The N70 (and other phones) are intended to perform with a few differences when on charge.
For example, they don't vibrate when on charge (as they are obviously not in your pocket)

As to the increased volume, Im not overly concerned about that, if necessary I'll edit a midi file so its quieter at the start anyway. On that note, does anyone know if/how you can pull the midi files off the phone? I seem to remember trying it on my old 6230 and it PC suite wouldnt allow me to download them to the PC.

you cant with pc suite but using fexplorer or any other file managing soft you can send them via bt or move them to folders regoncnisable by pc suite e.g. the root of the mmc or the root of the internal memory

I'm having a problem with Alarm Manager too.

I installed it a while ago and once the trail expired i uninstalled it from the phone.

Problem I have is that the phone still alarms at the times i originally set when it was installed. I have re formatted the phone but that didnt seem to work.

The standard Nokia alarms still works but it's becoming annoying when it comes to the weekend and my alarm is going off at 6.30 in the morning.

Any ideas anyone?

Nope, It does not work on N70. The only alarm which work is number one, from number two to eight will not set any reminder alarm in the calendar. I tried to set them and then looked at the calendar, no trace of the alarms. Anyone who could get the alarms 2-8 to work on N70?

It doesnt seem to add an entry in the calendar itself but it does now work for me on alarms 2-8 after changing the calendar alarm tone.
If you want to add alarmed reminders that sit in your calendar why not just use the "Meeting" type entry for the calendar, for which you can assign an alarm reminder to and also schedule it daily / weekly, although not just on work days like with Alarm Manager?

No, I don't want them to sit in the calendar, I just couldn't find them anywhere where I can confirm their functionallity. I tried to set the alarm number 2 to three minutes from now on, but the alarm does not work for me :-( I'll try to reinstall it.

Im not quite sure what you mean when you say "where I can confirm their functionallity"? When set, the 8 alarms show in the Alarm Manager main screen so you can see what times they will activate at, and once you've changed your calendar alarm tone to something audible, it should work OK (did for me anyway)

Does this app run in the background (TSR, won't show up in open tasks, like AlarmManager) or does it need to be open all the time for alarms to work?

The application does not run as a TSR, and AFAIK neither does Alarm Manager work like that. Alarm Manager uses phones alarm API to schedule a alarm, but that introduces several limitations like 8 alarms only, no user defined days (like Mon, Wed, Fri) for recurring days or cannot configure the alarm to go off after every 2 weeks, no customization for the notifications etc. I have written this application from ground up so that its more flexible and customizeable. The Done key on the menu page does the same thing as when you press call-end button on you phone. Does this answer your query?

Yes that answers my question. Looks like a nice app although I don't use any apps that must stay open to function properly because an open app uses memory, cpu, and most importantly, battery power.

Alarm Manager does not need to be open and does not need to be a TSR because it uses the built-in API, thus saving system resources for other tasks.

Too bad you can't have a daemon truly running in background.
