N70 Memory card

Is anybody else having issue with memory cards being corrupted by their N70. I have now tried two different 512Mg cards from Kingston, ths first worked for a few days before the phone couldnt read it - the second could be read when I first inserted it, but when I went to format the card the phone soft reset and now it is saying the card is corrupted. I can read the card in my PC card reader and I can read the original Orange card in my phone... its all a but frustrating!!!

Im having the exact same problem witht he same size Kingston chip.

Sending mine back to get checked, but i reckon ill opt for a refund as they just dont seem to work at all with the N70 😞

No problems with ATP or Transcend cards on my N70, FWIW. Been using those for a few months now.

This happened to me using a 3650 (seems to be a common problem in s60 phones).

I used my cheapy 2.99 card reader to format it, and now it works absolutely fine.

Using a Kingston 512 on my N70, absolutely no problems at all..

Weird

Got a Kingston 512 for my N70 too.

Works fine most of the time but I have problems transferring data to it sometimes. Pics seem to be fine but if I try and send something like a mp3 it just freezes and says the phone has rejected the operation.

1 thing i did notice, i formatted my card in another phone and then started using it my N70 which worked perfectly, but when i have formatted it in my N70 it doesnt work very well. Not sure if that helps

Having played around with it quite a lot over the weekend (oo-er missus), it seems to be linked to trying to format the card in the phone and trying to do it with a very low battery.
I have re-formatted the card in my card reader and it seems to be working fine (at the moment) in my fully charged phone...

I've just ordered another 512 card made from lexar card from RS Components which costs £27 GBP, which I thought was pretty cheap. Got it slighty cheaper myself as I'm staff 😊

Will pick it up tomorrow and let you know how it is. I'm hoping I dont have the same issues as my Kingston gave me.

Will post feedback.

Beware: I could be wrong, but I think Lexar doesn't have a dual-voltage (DV) RS-MMC available, but just single-voltage (which will not work at all in the N70).

I've gone through 3 Kingstons in the past and had to return them. They don't have good quality control obviously. I also noticed a speed increase since switching to aData cards. All my friends have been using these cards as well. They're reliable, fast and cheap-highly recommended.

I checked before I purchased that it was DV. Pick up it later so will be able to confirm for sure.

Songs mysteriously dissapearing.. Java games not working.. Got to a point where the menu wouldnt actually load up with the memory card in

Yeah your right guys it's not DV. Also brought a mem card reader that will read any card except my kingston. Just trying to transfer data from card to re format it again, having a few problems.

Wouldnt recommend that anyone brought a kingston 512 card for the N70, i've had nothing but problems with mine. 😡

Yeah, I've been running 1GB in my N70 since Dec 05 and never had a problem :icon14: 😃 I got mine from Mobymemory.

S.

I also bought a 1gig card from "MobyMemory" I ordered it at 2.55pm, and it arrived the very next morning.

A 1gig card is £25.99. So very well priced, and a swift service, so i dont know about the best, but they are certainly the best ive come across 😊

MobyMemory

Ive had no problems yet, however i would reccomend getting a mem card reader from somewhere, as tranferring files to my phone through the data cable is painfully slow, around 30 secs per MB.

I bought a 1GB Kingston MMC Mobile yesterday - no problems so far on my 3.0546.2.3 firmware N70, with the card 80% full. Will keep you posted.

I still find it hard to believe that a particular make could cause problems, though....

I think it was about £28? Something like that. Seemed incredibly cheap. I remember buying my first Psion SSD. 128k, it cost £40!

I have a 2 cards of 1Gb rs-dv MMC from Mobymemory, and branded the same way, since November. One in a N70 and the other in a N-Gage QD. No problem at all. The delivery service of Mobymemory, from them to Portugal, is one or two working day, without any problem at all.

The data read/write speeds for the Kingston card seem appalling. Video recording on the N70 to card was next to impossible, with horribly jerky capture. I went back to my US TECH 512MB card and all was fine again.

I strongly suspect, as mentioned by others, that the slow access speeds are also responsible for occasional breakdowns in the integration of apps into the Menu system.

The Kingston card seems OK in my wife's 6630, used for MP3s, but I'm not going to buy Kingston again......

Anyone know of any definitive benchmarks between makes? Maybe we should compile our own?

Steve Litchfield

Very quick and unscientific, but by using FExplorer to copy a largish (3MB) file to my 512Mb US TECH card (from C: to E😊, it came up about 1MB/sec write speed.

The 1GB Kingston, on the other hand, came up at 0.3MB/sec write speed.

Can you chip in with your own tests of write speed? Thanks.

Steve Litchfield
