Error message "Memory full. Close some applications and try again"
HI, ive just got a 6680 on o2. Im having problems with it saying "Memory full. CLose some applications and try again". I can solve this problem by turning the phone off and on again but i dont want to be turning it on and off 3 times a day just so i can use the camera, internet or an application. How can i solve this problem? im using firmware v3.14. Another thing i dont understand is when i use my camera it says i have only 11 photos left and 5.47minutes on video left. But surely since my phone is brand new i should have more. Im using a 64MB standard mem card. Help any1? Cheers in advance

memory
to see how memory left, try tools -> memory it's show you your usage of the RS MMC
to see how memory left on the phone memory try Fexplorer or go to contact -> options -> contacts infos -> memory
to take more picture or videos, try to free memory or drop the picture or video quality
for the lack of space in a brand new phone, it's due to pre installed apps

Check to see if it's your phone memory or MMC memory that is full. If Phone memory transfer some files to MMC. Ringtones, Videos, etc. Also set Camera and Video to use MMC instead of Phone memory.
Download the installation files for Nokia programmes from here Nokia 6680 Downloads
Uninstall some of the applications via Manager and then reinstall and load files to MMC instead of Phone memory
Hope this helps

i think its one of the options, go to camera then settings and when you scroll down i think you will find whether to use 'phone memory' or 'memory card' i think

Ok ive done that now. cheers! Now i mwondering when i check my memory it says im using 1873Kb of phone memory but only shows 19Kb for contacts and 2KB for calender. Where is the rest of the memory being used? Its the same kind of thing for the momory card aswell. Another thing i have heard of some software called tracker, apparently it helps control applications- does any1 know anything about this? Cheers for any help in advance!!!!

The memory used by applications are not reported. Check the manager application in System folder. Highlight an application and view details. That will show if application is using Phone or MMC memory. Big ones are Quick Office ! and Adobe

Ok so all my applications are on my memory card, which is good. Do applications run in the background on 6680's? Its just my phone sometimes runs slower than others and thought maybe this could be why. If they do is there somesort of task manager software I can get? Or is it just the phone that sometimes runs faster than others?

They do run in the background. On the 'desktop' hold down the menu button for 3 secs, this will then show you what programs are running in the background.
It will be 'telephone' plus a few others, scroll down to the ones you want to end (everything but telephone) and press 'c' to end them.
Job done.
Hope this helps. Thats the reason you get the error messages nothing to do with running out of physical space. That would only happen if you were saving something.

Yeah you can end it. It just means your inbox is open in the background. You can try and end 'telephone' ... but it won't let you

Not really, only had mine a week .
Its not a really complicated operating system like windows etc, so I would say, close programs when not in use, delete things when you no longer need them, such as apps and SMS messages. Just keep it streamlined. Maybe format your memory card every few months. Make sure you back everything up because a format will delete everything.
You could delete apps like currency convertor and image editor and PDF viewer etc if you don't use them but whether this would actually speed up anything is negligable. I like to have them all on because it looks cooler.
Is your phone noticably slow. Mine seems faster than my old K700i. If it is very slow, take it back to the shop and see if you can compare to a working one.
