Try cycling the battery by fully discharging it, then fully charging it again.
There is a bug in the new firmware which affects the battery meter, but you should be able to get it to work properly.

Leaving the phone on with bluetooth enabled is probably the quickest way.

When you say you can't open the phone, do you mean you can't turn it on?
Have you tried plugging it into the charger and allowing it to charge up, then try turning it on?
