Exclamation Sendo move into Administration

Direct quote from the front page of Sendo.com... The affairs, business and assets of Sendo International Ltd, Sendo Holdings Plc, Sendo Telecommunications Limited and Sendo Limited are being managed by the Joint Administrators Simon Appell and Alastair Beveridge. The Joint Administrators act as agents of the companies without personal liability. We've no word on what will happen to the Sendo X2 (which was still being demo'ed to the press as of last week). Various sources are now reporting that Motorola has acquired the Sendo R&D team (based in the UK and Singapore). We'll have more news when it becomes available.

For those not familair with the UK Legal business term of administration, here's what Wikipedia has to say on the matter...

In the United Kingdom, administration can refer to the British laws for the creditors of an insolvent company to dismiss the Directors, to take control and to appoint an interim manager (called an Administrator). The task of the Administrator is to manage the business so that the creditors can minimise the scale of their losses. The company is described as being in Administration. Ideally, the Administrator will sell the business as a going concern, securing the best price. It is quite probable that s/he will sell any realisable assets separately: the whole may be worth less than the sum of the parts (see Asset stripping).

What a sad day. A lot of us in the industry really wanted Sendo to succeed. There was a lot to like about the 'X'...

Fully agree, very sad indeed. Let's hope something good will come out of the Motorola R&D acquisition which I hear was confirmed today.

It's been a very busy day indeed, what with Sendo first releasing a new X firmware (after a long wait), then only a few minutes later the news that they were in administration. That, followed very rapidly, by the news that Motorola have agreed to purchase the R&D and IP parts of Sendo's business.

Overall, a very sad day. Let's hope that something good can come out of all of this. (even if the excellent X2 doesn't now get released :( )

Needless to say though; SendoSmartphones will still continue to provide support for the X and (hopefully) the X2. We will also be continuing with our SSC scheme where possible, although I fear that recent events will result in less developers wishing to join up.
