Howdy Peeps,

It's me again. Sorry I haven't had the time to finish my www/wap N7650 Resources as yet. I've just came back from a Holiday watching the Indy Race on sunny Gold Coast, Australia.

While I was away, I stumbed on something. Not sure if it's so much a secret, but it hasn't been mentioned so I thought I'd bring it up.

Now, don't you think it's odd that Nokia released such a sophisticated phone yet limited it connectibility?? No Data Cables as such. Only Bluetooth and Infrared. Well those without those luxuries, do not despair!!!
Did you know that you can store ringtones, images and files on the web and download them onto your phone via WAP/GRPS???

It's quite simple actually. Upload your ringtone or picture to a server that is is WAP ENABLED. I recommend www.lycos.co.uk

Services>>>Connect >>> Options>>>Go to URL Address>>>Type in location of the file you want to download.
http://hostname/location/filename

Example: http://members.lycos.co.uk/mr6t9r/polyphonic/0013.mid
Try it. It's Aha - Take On Me.

You can do this with anything. But if you're planning on downloading it to your phone, try keeping all the files around 7kb or under (for some stupid reason you'll get a WAP ERROR: OPERATION CANCELLED) I think this may have to do with the size of packets allowed over WAP *shrugs*.
Edit your images with a photo editor eg. Photoshop and edit your ringtones with a midi tool eg. Anvil.

Well I hope you have heaps of fun with this tip. I know I have. LOL 😉

Okay!!! I'll provide a text list of all my polyphonic ringtones and images on here soon. I'll post it here in a couple of days.

Any ringtones request(s) should be posted here.

I've uploaded to my webspace and just typed in the link to the file - it's worked for small wav files, midi files and for jpgs. Couldn't get a file that was 100k though - some kind of error.

Well that's what I mentioned at the start of this thread. You have to keep the files around 7kb or under. Wierd though, I have few wallpapers I've downloaded from other wap sites and they've been 22kb. Anyone help on this?

if you use http://briefcase.yahoo.com , you can download 100+ kb files from there to your phone, but i don't know how to upload files from the phone to that briefcase..

I tried it and it doesn't seem to work. Do you type in the files direct URL? Or do you have to log onto Yahoo Briefcase???

If you can type in the files direct URL, do you have to set your folder as public? Or can you keep them private?

you don't have to set the folder to public

just log on to your briefcase account (from your pc), then right click on the file link that you want to download, then type the whole url address in your phone..

i hope it works

Nope. Still doesn't work. What am I doing wrong????

Stumbled on this thread when I searched for ways to upload files to my 7650. Its quite a "bump", but I'd thought I'd share with you this site that i found: www.mobstorage.com - It makes it all so much easier, no registration and all. If only i did not pay pr kilobyte GPRS usage...
