MMC Card - Just me?
is it just me, or does the X actually have something against MMC cards? i am constantly having problems with the MMC card in my phone. it is a 1gb card and every so often the X will tell me it is either not inserted or corrupt. it is only on this phone (the one that i push the most) that this happens.
bad card? anyone else in this boat?
oh, and now it will not let me do a backup. it fails about the 20% mark, then i have to reboot in order for the phone to recognize the card again.

Hmm, that sounds strange...Which brand is it, and did you already try to format it inside the phone?

it is an a-data mmc 1gb. i formatted in the phone the first time i used it but have since reformatted in my card reader. does that make a difference? understand that i am constantly moving things to and from the card via a card reader or bluetooth - but that is what is was meant to do. ticks me off just a bit that this is happening.

I inderstand, but it can make a difference if you format it in your cardreader. You can format in FAT or FAT32 and that does make a difference for your X.
I'm wondering though, winxp can also manage ntfs formatting, but does the X support this also?

The X (as with most devices) only supports FAT, so will not work with a memory card that's formatted as either FAT32 or NTFS.

inly formatted FAT with the card reader - trying out a spare 32MB MMC now and if this acts up will go with a 64MB SD... if that one does the same thing off to sale it goes

I think you've got a dodgy handset there...sounds too wrong for it to be a software issue... :(

I don't know if you use a program called Taskspy, but when the list of apps appears, there is a background app running called unlockMMC. At a guess, it could be that this app has become corrupted by removing the MMC while a program's running. Check with TaskSpy to see if it's there. Either way, you may need to get in touch with plinkykev to get a replacement copy.

plinky - are you out there? need some help.
ok - where i am at now is back with a workable solution. i am running a backup that i made a few days ago and it is running on my 1gb mmc card.
@mas - just in case i did not explain enough yesterday, the 1gb mmc shows just shy of a gig when in the card reader and in the phone. it has 496 or so free currently, with evrything that i have on it.
the phone will not recognize the 32mb mmc card at all. i know for a fact it is a working card as it will do just fine in another handset.
the issues that i am having seem to come about when i am using applications off the mmc rahter than installed to the phone. also, i was to the point yesterday that i could not complete a restore operation to the mmc at all. it would error out about the 20% mark. so far so good today... i will keep you posted.

We've tried LOADS of MMC and SD cards. Only issues we've seen are badly formatted - FAT32/NTFS - as already mentioned, and, sadly, some "lesser" (unbranded) type cards that seem to behave badly. Not heard of your one.
We use SanDisk and Kingston in-house, and they always seem reliable. See the other S60 forums - Nokia and Siemens users have had problems with some brands too.
Another weird issue to watch out for, while we are talking cards:
We have also found that some cards are being rebadged by suppliers as lower capacity cards. ie: 128MB card has a faulty "spot" in the 70/80MB range. Card is rebadged as a 64MB card and sold on by an "unknown" brand.
PC shows as 128MB. Format seems OK. Try to copy 128MB to it - dies around 70-80MB.
Technically they are correct I guess, but a weird problem - took us a while to spot that! Actually ended up reading the code imprinted on back of the card - which shows a "128" somewhere in it, yet front label shows 64MB.

It shouldn't, as themes *SHOULD* be installed only on the phone's memory. Having said that, I have seen some which will let you install them on the memory card - had you done this?
One other thing - which theme is it you were using?

OK - last try. just bought a 1GB sandisk SD card. i will load this up when i get home this evening and attempt to restore the system files from a previous backup. if this one goes the same way as the 1GB MMC card i am all out of things to try.
