I have this exact same problem - there is a firmware update available but my local(ish) service centre says they need to keep the phone for 24 hours and I'll lose everything on it. Talk about crap service.

Is there anyway to download these and do it myself??

[edit: type *#0000# to get your firmware version. Mines v 3.0448.0 and evidently there *is* a newer one.]
