New Sendo X2

Suddenly I don't want my X any more...

Jarold, can you tell us which version of S60 it uses? Is it version 2, or still 1.2?

Jarold, Ewen has just said it's S60 version 2 😊

The screenshots in the image gallery look faked - the pixel count on the cherries is much higher than the rest of the screen - someone's being doing some photochopping me thinks 😊

Does this mean that they are going to stop making/developing new firmware for the current Sendo. Even with the latest firmware there are still some issues with it.

The silver one looks a lot smaller and nicer than the Sendo X!

But it only takes mini-SD cards and I only just bought a 1GB SD card 😞

jseah88, new releases of firmware are still planned for the Sendo X.

The next release of firmware is currently being finalised - sendo are determining exactly what enhancements and fixes are going to be included. Following this it will need to go through validation and approval from the operators/networks, to pre-empt your next question this can several weeks, depending on how busy the operator is and the complexity of their approval process. Needless to say, as soon as it is ready it'll be up on the web site.

I heard from one of my "sources" that a couple of Sendo guys were seen in a certain Carphone Warehouse earlier today, buying up mini-SD cards for testing in a new "development" handset 😊

Stu... you must have "contacts" up to the hell! :P

Its going to be very interesting the way Sendo enhances the X family.

The funny thing is that the *contact* who told me this stupidly thought I may not have known about the X2 anouncement...I did tell him that I knew 3 hours before he did 😊

Well glad that the orig X will still be supported, maybe in time they may be able to bring hte X up to Symbian 60 V2 as well that will be great. Cause Im still not seeing that much difference in the two apart from the Camera and the OS, and personally Id rather stick with the SD cards seeing as we have got 2 gb and 4gb cards coming out now. More area just to stuff things into and not finding it again

Umm cant say the specs or the pics would tempt me away from the original X.

Also if it were the uptodate Symbian 60 V2 OS I think they would be bragging about MIDP V2 support - which there not ..... Smeels like a reshelled slightly modded X to me .... Maybe its cheaper to produce ?

Anyway good on Sendo for announcing another half decent phone ! - Now they just need to get it to the shops with operator backing !

G

As stated by some big Nokia chief on the Nokia Series 60 press conference today, the Sendo X2 is 'a version 2 phone plus what they've built upon it'.....

So, the Sendo x2 is timed late as a version 2 phone, and timed too early for the series 60 v3....

You guys think this will mean the Sendo X2 will be an outdated phone when it first reaches the shops?

I'm yet to get a firm answer, but from what I' hearing, the X2 is indeed S60 version 2. It's yet to be determined what the X3(? 3G version ?) might be...if it exists... ???

Unfortunately, I've just heard that the X2 is infact a Series 60 1.2 device 😞

This latest news has come from Rafe, who has spoken to Sendo.

kinda makes me feel better actually since the Sendo X has only really just gotten into wide release. and I think they have a lot of enhancements that Sendo can make with the X just within itself to keep it viable for a long time.

I agree with jseah88.
Sendo still has a long way to go with the X. I think its a phone with great resources and can still be greatly improved. I think they should concentrate their efforts on the improvement and realiability of the current X instead of making a substitute. Providing us with one of the best smartphone out there.

I love the X and it would make very unhappy to see it die so young.

It would be interesting to know, from the technically minded out there, what you think the advantages are of Series 60 version 2.0 over 1.2?

The amount of applications and games out there compatible with 1.2 obviously far exceeds that for 2.0, what is it that you think you might miss?

Also remember that although the original X was based on Series 60 version 1.2, Sendo back-ported a lot of functionality from version 2.0 as 'extensions'.

Over to you.

Sendo X2, lacking Symbian v2 and they have removed the blitz from the camera!? 😮 - LOL!!!!!

Don't see the point at all upgrading to this phone. It doesn't even look as
good as the original X, and is certainly no match to the Nokia 6680 both
with regards to hardware/software specifications and design....

Give me the Nokia 6680 with ARM 220Mhz CPU, 3G/UMTS/Edge, STEREO MP3,
Symbian V2 OS8, 2 cameras (VGA/1.3Mpx w/BLITZ), so that I am capable of
running all my Symbian applications once again....

Also by the time the X2 is released (summer), the Nokia 6680 will have been
on the market for months... The Sendo X2 will be dead before it is born!!

Just need to sell my Sendo X first!!! 😮

Just switch the phone on and press Play. Theres no wading through menus or searching to find your songs. The exclusive Sendo Now! Screen with its built-in Music Player and clear control keys literally put your music at your fingertips.

I think they forgot about the Siemens SL45i 😊

- improved multithreading (that would be good especially for the MP3 player)
- You could use themes for other 2.0 devices on the x2
- MIDP 2.0 (i don't know if sendo integrated it in the X2)
- some very good programs require v 2.0
- minor improvements

Also remember that although the original X was based on Series 60 version 1.2, Sendo back-ported a lot of functionality from version 2.0 as 'extensions'.

That's why i didn`t add "themes" and "scrolling".

65k display?? all the new phones got 260k display by the time it get's out..
don't like the design either... :frown:

Pish! They've gone and done it to me again.

I've got an excuse to escape Nokia now, and I have an upgrade due at the end of this month.

Now they are quoting April, will this actually be the case or will I end up waiting about for 3 months, get bored and get another Nokia, or more to the case the iJam

If they want to maintian any credable reputation, they have to get this out on time

You can write perfectly good multi-threaded code on S60 1.x. What you can't do is get close enough to the audio and video hardware to do everything that you would like to.

some very good programs require v 2.0

Please post some examples, as I'm thinking of buying a 6680 as soon as they are out. 😃

I think Sendo should give us all a free X2 when released for all the hassle we've had to put up with. I certainly wont be touching it with a bargepole, but StuClark and friends are avid supporters so they'll have a small captive audience!

It would be interesting to do a poll to find out how many current x owners would be prepared to upgrade when its available. I suspect there are hundreds more unhappy people that dont look at this forum. I wonder how many Sendo have sold in the UK to date?

TOTALLY agree with you man!!! We have actually been the beta-testers
for this overpraised phone...

Some people in here I think are either bribed by Sendo, or on their official payroll.

There are many examples of programs that are designed for Symbian OS7/8 V2
and which will not work on the previous releases, the most important one which
is reason enough for me alone to sell my X and not buy the X2 is TomTom Mobile.

This application is just awesome. Have tested it's main comptetitors;
Route 66 Mobile 2005, Wayfinder, and these are not close to being as good
as TomTom Mobile.

QuickOffice Premier 2.0 with editig capabilites is also designed only to run on V2.

The list is long of applications that won't run on Sendo's V1.2, but for me at least
having editing capabilites on the office applications, and having the best
GPS navigation suite out there is sufficient enought to steer away from Sendo.

What the heck would I need the USB keyboard for on the Sendo X/X2 if I cannot
use a proper office suite on it!!??

There are also many features on V2 that is not present on V1.2 (having had the
N-6600 1-year before the X I know). One in particular I am missing is the
possibility to edit MMS messages when you forward them. Also the capability
to send slide-show MMS messages with several pictures and interconnected sound
clips is missing in V1.2.

The NOW screen on the X I actually like, and will potentially miss. But the new
N-6680 seem to have an awesome active-desktop system as well. And there
are also some other packages out there from 3'rd part vendors.

Also the list is HUGE of applications that does not work properly with audio on
the Sendo X due to inproper audio hardware or drivers. (Sendo claims it is
poorly written software, but don't tell me that Ultra MP3 for Symbian is a bad
piece of software!!!)

You choose for yourself!

Yes there's a lot of high end apps and users, but let's be honest. There's aonly a small fraction of users who will actually use every application. The majority will remain with the built it. Also, Sendo's philosophy is to work with the networks and deliver what they would like, the end-user isn't as high on their spec list as the networks. There's also the development time to consider,a dn also that no third party Series 60 licences have yet to release a v2.0 device

Come on, we are in 2005 now. All NEW Symbian phones should be up to date
on the Symbian OS!!! Many users on this forum are here because they are
"power-users", and Symbian OS 6.0/6.1 was released almost two years
ago on the N-gage/3650 etc... Two years in this world is a lifetime!

I have a strong suspicion that the reason people buy Symbian phones is due to
the extensive software library. At least that was one of my reasons when I
bought the X (didn't know better then).

And if people then buy the X2 in mid 2005, my hunch is they will get dissapointed,
since more and more applications will be based on Symbian OS 7/8/ v2.

If I didn't care about software compatibility I might as well buy a cool Motorola
or a Sony Ericsson K600i...
