An update of the 9210 design? Pictures of NEC's Communicator

New British netwrok (and Orange break-away group) '3' has ordered 2 million 3G hansets from NEC. The new designs are pretty tasty. The one which caught my eye however, was the clamshell, QWERTY keyboard equiped PDA/Phone in one.

Out by December 1st in their new flagship store on Oxford St. the phone looks fantastic.

I guess you want to see it then?

Head over to my webspace adn take a look at the three JPG images begining with 'P021023'

http://www.gurnah.btinternet.co.uk/images/

I didn't post them because of the limited bandwidth problems.

I think that the design is a very small clamshell (looks like that colour samsung size), and the non-clamshell qwerty looks like a blackberry. The size immediatly puts it into the Palm / Sony Clie category, so I doubt this is the 9210 replacement I'm looking for.

Ewan,

Have you considered an Orange SPV with a Targus foldaway QWERTY keyboard?

I like the second one a lot, if it is successful, it could be the style taken on for the next communicator by Nokia. Obviously thats just my opinion rather than an educated announcment, but you never know!

I hav a similar keyboard for the Palm III and I have to say that while it's "cute" it's still a Macgyvering of something that shuold be there. The hunt and peck keys (as the Sony Clie) are just as bad.

I have a pocket scrapbook (a Palm IIIx) so why do I need another one? My phone has an integrated keyboard that I can use in my hands while standing, or moving around, not something a stowaway can handle.

So much as the SPV is "cute" it's not replacing my Palm IIIx nor my Series 5mx (which the 9210 is still struggling to replace).

Guys, Today I have played with the new Samsung.

This NEC looks like it. Excepting the keyboard, because it is more compact.

Have you noticed this?
