Howdy all and anyone. I had exactly the same problem with the first post of this thread, and found this page as the first result in Google when searching for [nokia pc suite imediacontrol2].
I've had some luck with a solution so I thought I'd share/confirm what others had suggested. The summary is that I just uninstalled Nokia PC Suite 6.2, restarted my machine and reinstalled, plugged the data cable to the PC, then cable to phone, phone started charging and then ran one of the Suite apps, checking the connection, and there was IR and serial available. If you want the details though, read on.
- My sitcho
I originally had Nokia PC Suite 5.64 for my Nokia 3210 via InfraRed on WindowsXP. It was ok, but every now and then the Nokia 5.64 apps would crash, especially Phone Book Editor for editing contacts and messages. Just lately I have been getting wierd errors from what looks like the C++ that they've written it in (CLanguageModule etc), and can't get to the software or the system tray 'little phoney thing'. Anyways, I bought myself a non-Nokia serial-to-USB cable for a little faster/more stable connection (and charging) and happened to check Nokia to find they'd released a new version of the PC Suite.
- Uninstalling PC Suite 5.64
I went to uninstall Nokia PC Suite 5.64, but for some reason my install of 5.64 didn't have its own uninstaller, or an entry in Windows' Add/Remove. I even went to check the system tray phone connection manager and it just consistently gave me the language errors and error dialogue boxes from before.
I had to do the dirty. I checked the currently running services (in Task Manager - Ctrl Shift Esc or right-click the taskbar - Task Manager). I spied nclTray.exe and guessed it meant Nokia client tray, and killed it. The little phoney thing disappeared when I hovered my mouse over it. One down. I tried to delete the Nokia directory in Program Files, but it said things were still in use. Because of this thread I saw to take out DataLayer aswell. Then I could delete it. I then ran the Nokia registry cleaner to see if it knew about un-registering old Nokia PC Suite components, but it said that there was nothing removed. Must just be for known knew version keys. Unfortunately that's as much as I could do for uninstalling PC Suite 5.64 the dirty way, until it's time for me to do a full system reinstall.
- Installing Nokie PC Suite 6.2
Grabbed it from the Nokia website, installed fine, couldn't see an explicit connection management applet, but found a connection menu on one of the applications. I checked the connection but then got the aforementioned error message about the connection failing, mentioning IMediaControl2. Having just successfully installed my non-Nokia data cable with no problems, I was hoping it wasn't that. I tried the Nokie PC Suite 6.2 Uninstall, and it gave the option to Repair, which I tried, but still the same message. I finally just uninstalled it all, restarted my machine and installed again. I opened a random application from the suite and checked the connection menu, and there was IR and serial available. Done.
It has been frustrating, sometimes, trying to debug these problems, so hopefully some of this rant might help someone else.
