p800 mp3 as ringtones possible?

3 replies · 5,909 views · Started 18 March 2004

I read on alot of website stating that p800 cant use mp3 as ringtones. I just wan to confirm whether it is true.

Coz i bought my p800 from some local phone retailer. And there is this stupid cocky guy told me that it can use mp3 as ringtones and i argue with him i said it cant. IT can only use wav as ringtones and not mp3.

So maybe that cocky guy is refering to some kind of patches or some kind of app that enable the p800 to use mp3 as ringtones.
I wana prove him wrong so i come here to confirm 1st b4 i take my action.

Thanks&Rgds
Steven

I bring back the phone to the shop and that fella show me the other p800 can use mp3 as ringtones. He told me that need to update the firmware in order to use the mp3 as ringtones.

But i haven't heard or read any news from the forums or anywhere abt this issue. Is it reliable? That the firmware can achieve that it make mp3 as ringtones?

it is quite easy to do for sony, but it isn't possible for the p800, the operating system would need the mp3 codec built in. a third party app could be made, it would act just like advanced call manager, and just always be open in the background and it would listen out for calls, before initiating, similarly, a program could permenantly sit in the background, wait for calls, and then play an mp3 ringtone, but yes, a firmware flash could do this, but it isn't available.
