Any comments ???

I allowed myself to take & copy this below topic (anyway written by me, myself & I...) & published again by me, myself & I on our dear friend's forum, LOONYWORLD (sorry for that LOONY).

Dear all 9210 users...

Intro...

We all discovered this week that in the next few days, an MP3 app will be available for 9210. Good. But... BY THE WAY... Please do not get me wrong for the below comments, as the MP3 player can be a breakthough for 9210 apps. Plus, I love to be the Devil's advocate.

Comments...

It is cool to have an MP3 player on our 9210. But what is the real purpose of it with current 9210 limitations?

1) We all know that the space available on our Memory Cards (up to 64..., until 128 available???) does not allow us to store a lot of songs. I agree that you could use the Nokia converter, but this changes the songs to another smaller format non MP3... YES we could have an extra Memory Card just to store the MP3's, but imagine, every time you have to change the Card just to hear your songs... This, until the day one will come up with a smaller size format of MP3's... And important... Do not forget the space memory problem... I guess this will mean that, for example, if I store (lets say a normal number...) 10 songs in my Card, will I continue having those anoying Error Mes stating that there is not enough memory available?

2) The sound problem... 9210 = 1 speaker = Mono sound. Of course you could use some earphones, but I like the idea of hearing my music without earphones...

3) Download possibilities. Of course we can still download songs from the net. But with 9210, imagine the time you need to download some files, apps, music, etc. Unfortunately, 9210 is still slow, eventhough I guess there will be improvements on that. Plus with 9210, as it is a phone requesting a coverage, you can have some losses in the signal, meaning that time to time the quality of your downloads will not be as good.

Conclusion.

1) My comments here above are made in order for someone to convince me to install the MP3 app on my phone. All suggestions & comments are welcome...

2) But I still want to emphasize that offering an MP3 app to 9210 is a very cool idea. We just need (and hope) that Dear Mr & Mrs Nokia decide to join the Year 2001 and offer more faster possibilities & further developments to 9210...

I dream of a 9210 beeing a real portable phone/pc/laptop/gamer system solution.

BEAM MY 9210 UP, SCOTTIE !!!

Regards

Well, I have to admit I also agree that an MP3 player for the 9210 is NOT on my Xmas list for similar reasons. Can't see the point in having MP3's when I can have just as small WAV's that I can use as ringtones as well.

But... I've heard through the grapevine that a new version of MP3 (MP4??) is being developed that will half the size of MP3's - but is it still worth it? And if so will the current MP3 players for the 9210 be able to play them??

As for transfer speeds - yeah the serial link is so S L O W but I've got a USB card reader which works great with the MMC. I can back up my 64Mb MMC - which considering I run a website for multimedia for the 9210 is usually 90%+ full - in about 3 minutes - a bit fater than the hours it takes with PC suite.

Even with the faster USB Card reader - WAV files do the job for me, just wish the recorder program had a playlist feature.

Yes there is I have converted all my mp3s to Windows Media Audio 8. They have taken 6 Gigs but now only 3.1 GB of my HD Space covered by music. )

I very much doubt wma will make it to the 9210..

The mp4 your refer to is probably mp3 pro, which the current players do not support.

And remember if you do want mp3 on your 9210 encode them properly - dont bother with massive bit rates or stereo. By being careful you can cut right down on the file ize.

and yes if I had a 9210 I wouldn't be buying MP3 player either..

Psiloc has finally put the MP3 on the way. I will take it and play alround with it...

Will let you know my deep thoughts about it...

Plus, I saw a topic on the "My Communicator.com" sent by MP3go, asking who wants to have his MP3go for free as a download. If it is true, will take it as well, and let you the in's & outs...

Sorry Folks !!!
But the news re a free MP3go was not conformed... I guess it was more a test to c if people were really interested in something for free... Plus to open a discussion concerning MP3 app... Still, an MP3 at 45 US $ is kind of expensive...

Smell you laters, 9210 rascals!
