Unable to restore backup

About 3 weeks ago i took my A920 to be upgraded to A925 firmware. I got the phone back, everything was running fine BUT when i am trying to restore the backup of my phone the application throws an error
"erron in bakupthread()"
I dont care about my sms or mp3 or even mp4 but what i DO care about is my contacts. I managed to find where the database is kept
/system/data/contacts.cdb but whatever i do, i can't access it. I downloaded the emulator, and changed the original contacts.cdb with my one, but when i open the contacts app it thinks that the file is corrupted. I believe that information is kept somewhere about the contacts.cdb filesize and if the new size is not the same as the old size then it thinks its corrupted.

Does anyone have any idea on how to recover my contacts, or even display them to manually copy them? I am so desperate on this.

I even called three but they said they don't know about the problem and they can't help me!!!!!!

grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Any ideas?

Got exactly the same problem....

But I was 'luckier' : I got thru until the end and received 'File restoration completed'... But after the phone reboot, neither my contact or my calendar were restore...

Three customer service only said that they will convey the problem to Motorola and just wait for their reply...

djgenesis, try to uninstall everything cleanly before install the new A925 suite. (Just keep a copy of c:\Motorola just in case..)
btw, the file size, checksum and date for every single file can be found in [Your Phone name].mdb. You can open and modify it with Micro$oft Access...

The software (backup and restore) is working for the new data, though.. (I create new items for contact & calender, back it up, do master clean, and restore.. it works)... So, I am still trying to compare the different between them (saved file by A920 suite and A925 suite program).. I'll let you know if I got something...

Any one have tried something else ?

I uninstalled the Simulator and everything and just got it out of my head. Can't motorola release a patch or something like that to decrypt the file?? Not even they . Sent them an email and got no reply . Customer care suxxx...Thanks for the advice though fella. If you find anything let me know

My A920 phone that I bought (and I mean I bought the -phone- , not a contract, not a 3 licence to use a phone, I bought a lovely pda/mobile thing) came pre-flashed with the A925 firmware, which is great because I've heard nothing but nightmares from people using the buggy originals.

I can connect to the phone fine with the desktop suite, although for the moment I can't get the backup working... can I assume that the A925 desktop suite is better to use for that?
