I belive some people have reported that the 6600 will access the internet when used with a bluetooth Access Point?? If this is correct surly it must be the PC software not proxying/routing the bluetooth connection to the internet (surly thats what the BT AP will do that a USB stick/mrouter will not??).

Is there any software out there that will turn a USB BT stick/dongle in to a BT access point? to try this?

Anyway just a though.

Well, it looks like this wont be changed or fixed any time soon, on a related note, I have just recieved an SE P900, which when in it;s supplied datacable/cradle thing, has complete net access immediatley, and works perfectly.

Unfortunatly there are only 3 IRC apps for this phone, and they are all, with the best respect in the world to their authors, crap. Sorry, but it's true - in fact 2 of them dont even work right, and the remaining one is poor. I hope the one i used for the 6600 will be ported soon.

Given that a phone like the P900 can still access the net via PC, I simply cannot understand why Nokia felt it was necessary to remove/block this feature with the 6600. Has anyone checked with a newer symbian handset from nokis, if there is one? If a newer phone has this facility back, then perhaps Nokia could be persuaded that removing it from the 6600 was a mistake and they'll patch it?

I think the 3660 and the N-Gage are newer and Bluetooth internet sharing works with those devices.

Can anyone clarify if the 6600 can access an internet connection over bluetooth via a Bluetooth Access point?

In one of the BT/Internet access threads somone mentioned this was possible but did not go in to any detail, another mentioned a BT AP with a link to the manufactures site, this AP had a client to install on the handset.

What i'm not sure of is if a notmal BT AP (somthing like a Dlink DBT-900AP) will work or not for sharing internet access with my 6600 over bluetooth.

Cheers

I noticed that the program worldmate from www.mobimate.com allows a connection setting that configures the mrouter directly from within the application on the phone. Maybe this is the way forward if we can have this built into opera or netfront ?

It _is_ possible to set up a 6600 to use a Bluetooth connection for Internet, you just can't
use mRouter with it. If you have Windows XP or Linux (you might be able to use Win2000),
you can check out my rough instructions at http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/mraento/symbian/bt-ap.html.

Be warned though: this is not quite end-user friendly.

No joy - does not want to connect - 2 problems from your instructions

1- Setting up a (via Troys instructions) - says com3 but not got a com3 available when selecting ports

2- not sure about proxy sever bit - if i need to do it and where to do it if I do.

Right done as much as I can and got following message when trying to connect - Login script error (when I get this far)

Hi there,

First of all great forum you have here.

Now i have tried it and it works!!!!!
I just noticed you need a password, had non on my pc Windows XP.
My config is a Cable internet with a Router, the router has a DHCP server en NAT is enabled. The PC's on the network get IPs from 192.168.0.10 to 192.168.0.15, the IP stack for the Bleutooth connecton gives adresses from 192.168.0.20 to 192.168.0.22.

I folowed the instructions of Troy Fontaine for the PC part and enabled NAT on my PC with the instructions on the site.

Now i'm able to internet with Opera, i cant get wap to work true Services doe!

Fantastic news if it's true. I've set everything up on my phone and laptop but can't test it yet as I don't have my bluetooth dongle with me until tomorrow.
