Exclamation Motorola 920 sucks

Hi all,

Sorry to say this, but I think the motorola 920 sucks....
I havent locked at any other symbian divices but motorola truly have done nothing to get it useful.

Thi user interface is beond all critic, it's slow, difficult to navigate without having to use the touchscreen what can I say...

Really? A pen-based user interface that's difficult to navigate without using the pen? Well I never!

Actually, now you come to mention it, I notice MS Windows is a reall bitch to use without a mouse. Surely something must be done?

Make sure that 3 offer the firmware upgrade in your country that activates bluetooth, infra-red and unlocks the phone to be able to run 3rd party apps.
If this is not offerd where you live stay away from the A920 because you wont be able to do anything with the phone

Here are some of the main differences

P800
Physically smaller
Can install & run apps off the memory card (A920 can only run them off the c drive)
A lot of the apps are written for the P800

A920
65k colour screen
SD/MMC card support
D-pad & game buttons (makes playing games easier)

Well.... Actually Windows is written so it CAN be used quite easy without a mouse... That's called keyboard shortcuts.

I agree that the UI in A920 is quite stupid! The phone has loads of buttons, but the GUI developerteam apparently hired a guy per button so there is (almost) only one function per button.

E.g. The volumebutton on the side could also have been used for scrolling on webpages.

Quite easy? Have you tried changing Network drives within the "My Computer" window using a keyboard? I get finger cramp just thinking about it. We had an old PC at work that didn't have a PS2 port (i.e. only serial mice could be attached) and the last serial mouse we had broke. I DID manage to complete what needed to be done with the keyboard (win NT4) but it took ten times longer and my fingers were tired due to all the strange key combinations needed.

Anyway, moral of the story, Windows is designed to work with a mouse (although keyboard shortcuts are provided for) and UIQ is designed to be used with a sylus (although same applies).

If it's not for you, fair enough, but complaining that a pen-based user interface is difficult to use without a pen is just plain daft! If your a vegitarian, don't buy beef burgers!

You know, in accessibility options you can turn on mouse-keys... so you control the mouse with the numpad... its slower, but it can be faster than tabbing your way to things... and i didnt have any problems turning it on without using a mouse.
I agree that the controls could have been a bit more intuitive... There are plenty of buttons that could've been used for navigation but weren't... but all in all thats not too big a concern for me... i just use the pen..
