Where is Program Exit...?

I don't see on many of the menu options to Exit/Close the program I am using. If I don't close the programs, how many can I have open at one time?
Am I missing something obvious to close apps?

No, you're not missing anything obvious. The Symbian OS is designed to manage your memory for you. If it get's low, it closes down the least used program to create more space. They actually recommend developers DON'T include an exit feature and allow Symbian to manage it instead.

Some still do of course, but it's not a default feature like it is on MS Windows apps. Personally though, I use the application view in Handy Day to close down apps after I've finished with them. There have been reports of people running out of memory and their phone crashing permanantly, so I prefer to play it safe. Then again, in computing terms I'm an old git and prefer to do things myself!

No, you're not really missing anything, that's the way Symbian and UIQ works. When a certain number of apps is running and the memory starts to run low, apps will automatically be closed to free up necessary memory.

There's a number of 3'rd party apps you can use to manually close those default apps that don't have an exit option, and the common belief is that this is wise not only to free up memory, but also to conserve battery power.

Personally I use Tracker, to manually close the apps. Tracker has a feature where you can assign a hardware button to close apps. So I just press the jog dial within an app which will then give me the option if I wan't to close that app or not.

Yeah.. it's work something like the palm OS. When i own a palm VX, most appl don't have the close or end program option. The OS will handle it for me just like symbian handle the open appl for me.

But then I still use either tracker or handy day to close un-used appl in order to save battey as what Lord Raven had mention.
